Justafan
If they really thought Burks was a DAWG, they wouldn't have felt the need to sign Ridley, Sign Boyd, and draft another guy. Their actions say that they see Burks as a guy who can give them 10-15 snaps a game in specific situations - best case - and not as a guy who could be counted on as a full time starter. nine
We’ve all heard the old saying: “Potential is a nice way of saying you haven’t accomplished anything yet.” Burks has always had the physical skills and plenty of potential…but after three years, he’s yet to show that he can be a dependable and productive contributor. At this point, it’s unlikely that he’ll ever become much more than what we’ve already seen. No doubt Ran and Callie love the kid’s potential…but if they can’t depend on him to be available and contribute, they have to bring in guys they CAN depend on. Which is exactly what they’ve done. No doubt Burks will be given ample opportunity to prove himself and earn a spot in the offense. But if he can’t stay healthy and contribute in training camp and preseason, then it’s just more of what we’ve already seen. Justafan

titanruss
They need 3 specific type players to run this offense. Burks is likely the primary backup for all 3 spots and would I'd guess translates best to player-wise to the DHop role. They can't rely on someone they've never been around that didn't produce before and was often injured. But that doesn't mean they have their minds made up on him. The Boyd signing is as much insurance as anything. It's just 1 year. It basically tells me they plan on being patient with Burks to see how he develops in a real offense and he will get his 4th year at least... with a chance to get that 5th year option if he stands out Number9

flaming_thumbtack
Boyd isn’t so prohibitively talented that Burks will be kept off the field IF he shows he belongs there. Number9, and No1TitansFan

They signed the biggest WR in FA and another guy that most people thought would get a decent contract. They also paid good money for a RB that could contribute on all three downs. Popular Post OILERMAN
Running 22 MPH doesn't really mean a lot. Short area quickness and the ability to create separation are way more important for a WR. It's what Ridley is so good at. Burks is a long strider who can run fast for his size but it takes him a long time to reach top speed. He was able to easily beat college opposition, He was even more of a gadget player in college vs a true WR. Here is some alarming stuff on Burks coming out Burks’ long speed was not the issue that made his combine performance so concerning. It was his explosiveness and short-area quickness. In the vertical jump, Burks leaped 33 inches, a mark that ranks at the 20th percentile all-time among wide receivers. In the three-cone drill, Burks recorded a time of 7.28 seconds, which ranks at the 8th percentile all-time among wide receivers. The combination of those two numbers puts Burks in extremely ominous company. According to Pro Football Reference, there have been 39 wide receivers in combine history to post a vertical jump of 34 inches or less and a three-cone time of 7.25 seconds or more. Of those, only two (Anquan Boldin and Chad Johnson) have gone on to enjoy successful careers, making up 5% of the sample size. Most players who perform at such a lackluster level in both the vertical jump and three-cone are not even considered draftable. oldschool, begooode, titantim, and 5 others 6 1
Popular Post OILERMAN
I'd guess the current Titans staff would have never drafted Burks with their analytical approach.
