The big fear is that he's just not quick enough to mirror against NFL speed rushers, and bendy guys might be able to get around him if he can't get his hands on them. I'm more worried about teams lining up in a wide 9 isolating Latham in space getting his weight and momentum moving outside then attacking him with inside moves and testing out his ability to quickly change direction. Yea, I know Latham struggled some in college with giving up inside leverage. There are definitely legitimate concerns with him at LT but I'll remain optimistic until I see it. titanruss Posted May 14, 2024 Report Share Posted May 14, 2024 (edited) Latham got beat for 2 sacks in his entire college career. Pretty sure they were both inside and possibly the same game. Entirely possible that this "poor feet, gets beat inside" thing was just a bad day at the office miscommunicating with his guard. It's also possible that he's a left tackle and playing on the right wasn't as comfortable for him. 100% he will have a couple rough plays to start the season. 100% a few here will claim to have been right and bash ran before hoping we all forget about it just a few games later. I'm particularly skeptical about the almost magical qualities given to coaching BUT even I must admit that I'm very optimistic and a lot of that optimism comes from Bill C being the coach. The guy appears to be a true innovator at the position rather than just a "really good coach". Being a Titans fan aside, I'm very intrigued by this experiment because if this pairing doesn't yield quality LT play then procuring a legit LT is even harder than I thought. Yup, I would feel much better about the pick if they weren't constantly yelling he is a great athlete at us. He is for his size but if you compare him to the rest of the class his movement skills are closer to 10th than 5th best and nothing like the top 3 guys. He has plenty to love like his insane anchor and finishing ability but his change of direction and sideways movement skills are rather average. Watch his tape then watch, fautanu, Olu, Alt, even Rosengarten and Kingsley. They all have feet that look like sewing machines when necessary and can pop out of their stance to the spot and set before most defenders are out of their stance. Edit: alt wasn't a great example he more glides but he still moves around effortlessly by comparison.
