chef
Fair enough. I won't make any jokes about it lest I get in a heap of trouble. Starkiller, and wiscotitansfan

TitansFan777
I’m so tired of this dude. He’s got a desire to be the center of attention to a worse level than Trump. And unfortunately, most media outlets are wayyyy to eager to ensure that happens. 9 Nines, and reo

NashvilleNinja
Of course everyone is focusing on the political/agenda-driven narratives behind Elon's buying Twitter, but not so much attention being spent to the fact that there are many other reasons why Elon's purchase may benefit the platform... like usability, technical/engineering, etc. Personally, I hope they shoot the character limit thing into the fucking sun. If you want to limit the space taken up then do something like hiding the biggest blocks of text and/or offer people the choice to add a brief summary of a longer tweet. titanruss
TitansFan777
Ah yes, the ol’ “Advertise on my social media platform and give me your money or else I’m sending my weird cult of incel-nerds, Musk-worshippers, and increasingly far-right lynch mob after your companies” trick. Im sure that’ll make the advertisers flood back to the platform - specifically a platform that: Is in a total state of transition and uncertainty. Is filled with bots, click fraud, porn, and hate speech - and who’s new owner wants to further remove restrictions on acceptable content. The worst platform adtech with the most limited ad types and audience targeting in the digital advertising industry. A platform almost solely operating on high-funnel awareness tactics and offering the lowest ROI/ROAS levels for advertisers in the industry - just as more and more advertisers are moving away from awareness and to value-based tactics. As someone who builds distributed applications for a living, I can say with certainty that there is hardly any chance that they will ever successfully ship new features ever again. First you mentioned usability -- well, generally all the best usability people gravitate towards accessibility. And the accessibility team was fired en mass. Next up is technical/engineering. They got rid of half the engineers. That's a "halt product development and coast" move. There's not gonna be any new features. Frankly I'd love to see them remove the character limit. Arbitrarily increasing message sizes from a small, known constant sounds like a perfect way melt down a globally distributed database. oldschool
pat
Tesla and SpaceX can abuse their engineers because electric cars and rocketry are relatively small niches. If an engineer is motivated by the mission, there's not a lot of other games in town. By comparison, when it comes to globally distributed applications it starts with FAANG... Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Google. Twitter was barely hanging with the big dogs. The recruiting sharks smell blood in the water and are already fighting over the remains. Salaries might come down during this recession, but no one is going to stay at Twitter. Folks will flock towards well established cash rich companies. There's also going to be startups with secured funding that just scored a once in a decade hiring opportunity. Titans279, and CreepingDeath

pat
All of Musk's harebrained "product ideas" are irrelevant. With the cuts made, they can barely coordinate anything.
