I plan to have a long discussion with my son about his end goal.  Back when I started 1M was lots money. You will always get what you desire, but inflation is tricky. Plus there has been a funny change in the money. The average person has less, so making money off them is tough for non-discretionary purchases. Even real estate, they cannot afford the same formulas as in the 1980’s.

The hatred between conservatives and liberals here pretty much sums up our current society. It is extremism of both sides. It is sad in my opinion to hate and degrade someone because of their beliefs and ideas. Politics have always been a subject that gets heated quickly, and people need to understand that before getting involved in them. If both sides could discuss issues in a civil matter, things could get done in this Country. 

 

People get hell bent on either the left or the right and absolutely refuse to stray from what they are told they need to believe. As a conservative, I can honestly say there are some liberal issues that I agree with. People need to become free thinkers and step outside the box of what they are told they are supposed to think, and if someone disagrees, so be it.

Do you remember the old expression of not talking religion or politics at family events?  That was a saying before the internet.  But now we have the internet. It changed everything. 

 

It's odd.  I almost agree with anything Soxcat says in the football forum, yet almost nothing in here.  

 

I think I could sit with Sox and have a reasonable conversation face to face.  But online in a political forum?  It doesn't work that way.  

 

One of my beliefs is the "information super highway" has unintended consequences.  Mainly in that old adage "don't discuss politics or religion" at family gatherings.  We now have a place to discuss these things openly and the division has really only become more extreme.  And any source of any information we want.

 

I think we've kind of failed at the information super highway.  It's not like we can turn it back, but I think it's been a detriment at this point.  Things may correct themselves in the future, I just don't see it with the current political landscape.  It's pretty much distant future.

The question is whether you have enough to sustain the lifestyle you want.  Or do you need to drive a Mercedes instead of a Lexus?  I'm happy with a 10 year old Lexus with 160K on it.

We have allowed technology to desensitize us. It has been a double edged sword. It has made our lives better, and worse at the same time, and will continue to make out lives better and worse, especially with the coming of AI.

 

Add to that the media from the left and the right shoves radical ideologies down our throats and pits us against each other. And that brews extreme hatred. It is only going to get worse unless there is some sort of intervention to keep these things in check, otherwise we could be headed for a true second civil war.
