This is a bit oversimplified, imo. Ward played badly by doing some of the same reckless, drive-killing hero ball stuff we saw last season. How many times do we need to see him drift backwards and say out loud to ourselves: ‘wtf are you doing?’

Daboll needs to get Ward to be consistent, staying within the offense, and when he has to go off script to use good judgment. There’s shit Lil Hands Cam can’t do, especially when it comes to ball security, and he needs to stop with the bad football. He needs to stop making bad, risky bets on himself, and get back to team ball. Next time he does it, bench him for 2 series. IDGAF, dude needs to get the message — that Levis looking shit, +10 yds behind the LOS has got to stop!

Daball is going to encourage running.  Callahan was much more about him being a pocket passer.    Later in the season teh coaching staff were encouraging him to run.

It looked to me like he was refiguring out what he could get away with.. and how long he could wait for routes...  real game speed was just different than practice.

Wandale mentioned he and Ward (I think he was being kind) were a little excited and adrenaline was going-   I think that is what we saw from Ward... Live bullets and everything sped back up.

Disappointing to see but nothing to worry about -- yet.  honestly- with what we saw from him second half of last season- ward has earned a little grace.

If he plays nearly exactly as last season with better weapons- we'll be better and I expect improvement as the preseason and season go.

7 series for the offense then!

JFC, it’s the first half of a preseason game for a second year guy learning a new offense.  This is why checking this thread is a bad idea.

I'll give him another year.  It took A Rodgers, J Allen, and  J Love 3 years before they got the goofiness out of their systems.

The Packer QBs, didn’t play their first 3 years and watched while being berated by the guy they were replacing. That difficult apprenticeship has not happened anywhere else.

I recall Allen running a ton, but not in retreat all the time. Also, he’s a bit of a unicorn in the way he improved his accuracy early in his career (relearned how to throw the ball, essentially). Lastly, J Allen is an absolute unit physically, and while he did turnover the ball frequently, at least he’s built to take those chances, imo.

Inside your 5 yard line,… please stop. Most of us can cope with growing pains, but this is the same selfish, bad football that we saw more often than we needed to last year.

Should have never been in that position in the first place. There was an easy opening to dip the shoulder and step up into a wide open pocket to either reset the launch point or to scramble.

I was noticing him escaping like that more in the practice and scrimmage footage too.  Is it deliberate?

Nah I think he just isn't used to the short crossers and timing of this kind of offense. Every offense he's ran before this from Incarnate, to Washington, to Miami, to last year was vertical and any quick hitters were the seam routes. Very few crossers and drag routes where you're reading through the LBs. His layered passes were usually over the LBs. It's a different more timing based offense. He uses that as his get out of jail move and it simply won't work very often. He has to learn to step into the pocket and go horizontal.

JC was looking pretty good out there!

That guy is a walking wall. Problem is I have no idea how good the 49er backups are. Anything noteworthy on Camarona? He looks like he’s got the size, that’s for sure, and his playing pad level is better than Volson, I hope.

I saw him have a really bad rep on one play and allowed the pocket to get pushed into Cam while he got laid on his ass. Other than that he held up well in pass protection.

Where I was more than pleasantly surprised was on the first drive he was doing a great job of combo blocks and getting to the second level. The first run to Pollard he moved off his guy at the exact right moment and got to the LB to spring Pollard for 8 or 9 instead of 3 or 4. He looked good for a rookie to my untrained eye.

The big problem with Levis is not that he sucks.  It is that he is so terrible that TR was robbed of our lengthy acrimonious debates

But in this regard I'm homer enough to believe Ward will come through for us.  I'm here for it!

Exactly, the tards jumped off the Levi’s bandwagon too fast to enjoy it
