I thought it was hilarious how perfectly she echoed my own take but that's no surprise because she has a brain. When I told her the takes here, she laughed (at me, really) and said what she has said many times - "I don't know why you spend so much time at that place when everyone is an idiot and just likes arguing." Did you then give her the multiple multiple years of context that completely change the scope in which you have to view these photos? Because that's what everyone here is using and anyone with a brain would be able to put two and two together and figure out what's going on in about 2 seconds flat. The Athletic needs her doesn't have the reputational currency to do anything else... and that's why the language is softer. Her contract is up in August. This isn't going to end well for her. I could theoretically see how someone could look at those pictures and conclude they're not as definitive as we think but I think it would be disingenuous to suggest that this would not be an extremely minoritarian view. I also don't think anyone is smart for being more cautious or dumb for making a judgement in this particular case because this is one where your individual life-experience is going to shape your opinion to much greater degree than your "intellect". Now I'm not sure what exact set of life experience would allow someone to look at those pictures and conclude it's a nothing-burger but that's kind of my point. It's not like the dumb ass CEO/HR lady at a dark concert who are not used to public media--this is a career journalist and an NFL head coach.
