I have bad news guys

Matt Nagy's OC in Chicago, Bill Lazor, is an Air Coryell savant.

Very good chance that Nagy is the guy...

My thoughts.   I post infrequently nowadays but do want to do so tonight.  I have vacillated with each new entry into the HC/OC sweepstakes.  I studied what I could with available data on ea

FWIW on F Words Zach Lyons just said he heard the interview between McDaniel and the Titans went “very well”.

Are we sure Ward is an Air Coryell guy ?

Personally I think he’s best suited to Shanahans and even part of Stefanskis style of WC (don’t think he suits what McVay is doing right now quite as well)

I like him in 2 TE or 13 personnel drop back PA with rollouts hitting vertical concepts, deep crossers and intermediate shots along with the short game mesh stuff. I know that’s not what he was really pegged as coming out

A lot of the criticism of Shanny Jr lately is that it’s tougher to do straight drop back when you’re trailing, which is why he’s always looked for QBs that can create off script (why he wanted Lance and why Purdy has been great)

Seems like Ward would thrive in that mix of utilising his creativity and giving him easier looks

I thought the trend this year with all the Shanahan guys was more under center drop back stuff

Shanny Jr changes every year, he’s definitely using less play action but that’s been replaced by all the motion stuff they do with CMC and Juice in the backfield. It’s just another way of doing it

The problem with Shanahan's system as it relates to Ward is it forces half field reads and is based on pre-snap processing. Ward is really good at post snap processing and seeing the whole field, not just half field. Shanahan system also really limits QB audibles, which seems to be a strength of Ward.

Culture is definitely harder to build if your talent sucks, you have a weak QB, and you lose a lot. It's much easier when you have the right roster and you are winning.

Cam is an alpha and he's going to demand offensive players work. Simmons is the same on defense. I don't care how weird McDaniel seems to some of you, he's a damn good offensive mind. The Dolphins did fantastic this year, so there's evidence McDaniel can co-exist with a great DC.

McDaniel has never had a QB like Cam Ward, and if you pair a top offensive mind with a top level passing QB, I imagine the culture and buy-in won't be an issue. Borgonzi is prioritizing high character guys who love football already.

If Borgo goes McDaniel's way then so be it. If nothing else the pressers with the back n forth between McDaniel and PK will likely be entertaining.

There are basically no offensive systems in the NFL that rely wholly on pre snap processing anymore

Kirk cousins talked about this recently (it’s great). There’s very little offenses with coverage based reads pre snap because defenses are far too good at disguising coverage. He said most every offense now uses pure progression in some way. The guy he said taught him this first? Mike Shanahan
