My thoughts.   I post infrequently nowadays but do want to do so tonight.  I have vacillated with each new entry into the HC/OC sweepstakes.  I studied what I could with available data on ea

FWIW on F Words Zach Lyons just said he heard the interview between McDaniel and the Titans went “very well”.

Baker has never won an All Pro and never will

He was terrible in Cleveland outside of one year where Stefanski did a good job with him, then lucked into 2 elite play callers and now looks like the average to below average QB he is

Winning a playoff game with Baker Mayfield, Jarvis Landry and Donovan Peoples jones as your passing game is a huge notch in Stefanskis belt

Baker went 11-5 3600 yds 62% 26 to 8 TD/INT Stefanski's first year. Next two were hell and he got the torn labrum and they traded for Watson and shipped him

AP not all pro. Jesus. This’ll teach me to argue with people over meaningless stats while trying to work.

My bad fellas. I stand corrected. Obviously, Stefanski is football Jesus and did the lord’s work over in Cleveland. How dare I question the merit of such an obvious football mind who did nothing but win despite a losing record and subpar offenses!

I never liked Sanders and was out on him from the beginning so no but that also makes me question how much influence he had on the QB decisions. If he fought in favor of Watson over Mayfield - gross. If he fought to draft Sanders - gross. If he thought he Flacco was a viable solution - gross. It's possible all of that was hoisted on him but that would also mean he had a weak voice in a bad organization which has it's own questionmarks.

All of these decisions are questionable on their own accord, but all were forced by context.

The Mayfield decision looks pretty bad now that he's adjusted well in Tampa Bay, but at the time in Cleveland he was immature and looked bad. He went to Carolina and washed out there too--per Baker's own admission he needed to grow up.

When it was made known the Browns were sniffing around at Watson at all, Baker was immediately done. This put the ownership in Watson or bust mode, because they knew the Baker ship had sailed.

From there, every QB aside from Gabriel/Sanders has to be seen in the context of Watson and the hopes that he would play and make it on the field. I don't see how you can see the Flacco decision as bad in that regard, as he was hamstrung with this "long term" solution at QB.

To be clear, I am not sure Stefanski is the answer or even a good choice. He intrigues me and I see the upside. I also see his system simply not being a good fit. He also is somewhat rigid and I worry about that with Cam.

Either way, all these QB decisions in Cleveland happened in shadow of Watson--a deal and collapse so bad it is truly hard to describe in full effect.

In terms of Shedeur and Gabriel, the whole league was down on Shedeur. Not sure how this decision can really be evaluated because we don't know if ownership forced it, but I am sure he signed off on it as a 5th round free fall pick. Gabriel absolutely had to be a guy he and Berry both wanted and that speaks to the kind of traits Stefanski looks for, someone who processes quickly, gets the ball out, operates in a scheme etc.

Ward will be better suited with someone who can allow for a play to develop and improvisation. Is that Stefanski? I am not sure.

On paper, I think ATL is the best fit for him as a coach, as he has always had maximum success with a good run game and a QB we know he can work with would be waiting in the wings in Kirk.

What is AP?

I don’t think Stefanski is some locked in elite coach, but I like his offensive mind, for the most part I think he’s had a good staff and has humility in his hires, and I think he’s a good voice in the locker room. I believe he’s better than his record would indicate

Mutual

@oldschool what’s the local word on KK leaving?  Truly mutual or forced out?

Not mutual... Quinn and he disagreed on the forward path for the offense. They are just doing him a solid by letting his agent say they agreed to part ways.

I got that sense because it’s usually spin from an agent that it’s mutual but figured you’d have a good ear to the ground there

I was talking to myself. It's Associated Press. I read it wrong. Completely wrong on the all-pro thing. I'm distracted and have completely f'd up this thread. Sincerely, my bad.

Still, you guys are dicks. All I was doing was questioning the logic that Stefanski is the clear best pick. If we are basing it on resumes, there are coaches with better records. If we're basing it on scheme, there are coaches with better results. If we're basing it on personnel development, don't get me started.

??? He left in 2022. Why are you being an ass?

Yes. He left in 2022 (in the offseason). Meaning he was there in 2020 and 2021 with Stefansky.

2020: the year he threw for 26 TDs and 8 interceptions and made the playoffs.

2021: the injured season.

2022: he was with the panthers and rams.
