He’s the “enemy” since he coaches ND, but I think he would be a home run hire. Exceptional leader who runs a good program and surrounds himself with good coordinators. He’s very hands off with the offense and focuses more defensively.

I thought he would be a good hire initially, but the 'take my ball and go home' they pulled with the bowl game is childish and indicative of weak leadership.  I don't want him anywhere near the Titans.

My thoughts.   I post infrequently nowadays but do want to do so tonight.  I have vacillated with each new entry into the HC/OC sweepstakes.  I studied what I could with available data on ea

FWIW on F Words Zach Lyons just said he heard the interview between McDaniel and the Titans went “very well”.

Lol that's a program decision beginning at the President level. It's more than just football-- its them withholding their economic pull from the benefit of ESPN

I have a hard time believing if Freeman wanted to play, they would have gone against him.  Obviously it wasn't only his choice, but that school fucked over their seniors and their fans by acting like a 5 year old who weren't chosen as a team captain on the playground.

They have to be the most overrated program in the country over the past 50 years.

I was slightly upset that Alabama got in but then I remembered ND was the team getting screwed .

This is partially the NCAA’s fault.  They have made it seem like playoff or bust.  Bowls are devalued now .  If you are top 20 legacy program and have to play in a bowl instead of a playoff game it looks bad .

Titans will be the top job opening especially if they get the #1 pick.

But but but... the odds of us hiring the right guy are low given how much coaching turnover there is on the regular. Naturally, they'd be higher if we had the 13th overall pick.

Correct. The NCAA gave the ball to the networks who dont fully understand college football and treated it like the NFL which its not.

IMO they should eliminate bowls completely.  Make it a 16 team playoff, let maybe one or two more group of five schools in and if you don't get into th playoffs your season is over like what happens in every other league/sport.  If they want to have something like they do in basketball and play some sort of other tournament similar to the NIT then fine.  But this idea of Georgia Southern desperately trying to find an opponent for their bowl game before Appalachian State finally said yes at 5-7 is so silly that if you didn't know it to be true you'd think it was a joke.  Mississippi State at 5-7 should not be playing in a postseason game.  And it's going to get worse, not better.  More schools will do what Iowa State, Kansas State and Notre Dame did this year and you'll start seeing 4-8 schools participating in bowl games.

No way in hell any of the parties involved , especially the cities, will abolish the bowls.

They can do what they want but are these bowl/cities going to embrace having 5-7 Buffalo face 4-8 UTEP with 2,000 people in the stands?  That' what it's coming to.

The bowls in the major cities still draw well.  The lowest drawing one that I saw was the Hawaii Bowl at 6k and that one doesn’t even count and can be explained away pretty easily.

There were a few that drew under 10k.  These are the non New Year’s Day bowls.

I haven't seen anything close to that scenario.  Local officials will be listening to the hotels, restaurants and Chamber of Commerce above all else.
