Sure killers often end up with a list.  But this could be a one off.  And if someone were sane and highly competent in their planning for this, with the willpower to avoid all dropped breadcrumbs and be fully silent about their action, not hard to see them just disappear.

 

The gun being found makes me question that thesis though, unless they come back with some No DNA Found report or similar.

 

Well the guy who murdered the Democrat politicians in Minnesota, for instance, was not just targeting a single person but had an entire list of Democrats and he was going to take them and their families (and dogs)  all out in one night. 

 

I don't know that there are great examples of political assassins escaping the scene in the US and then a track record of what they would do.

They fired the long term special agent in charge in Salt Lake City recently in a purge for loyalty as you stated.

My favorite nugget about that whole thing is that the right-wing deflection became that he was clearly a liberal that was best friends with Tim Walz. Wanna guess one of the names on his hit list of democratic targets? Tim Walz

Not laughing at you ; but just at the part of the article where the ABC “expert” starts speculating that the gun could have the shooters info via purchase info etc.

 

If he planned this thing out like this , there is no way he used a gun that was purchased /registered with his real name.

I don't think any one of the few conservatives on TR wished death to the Dems who were shot (was it the Minnesota rep).  I will not pretend to know who these people are but I don't wish harm on anyone.  If we did go after them or laugh at their demise or their families' plight, I'd be very surprised but I do apologize(at least for myself). 

We did laugh at the Paul Pelosi situation... partially because the Pelosi's have been corrupt for a long time and super sketch with their insider trading BS.  But the main reason for LMAO is because of the underwear wearing hammer guy's alleged sexual relationship with Mr. Pelosi is just bizarro.  If you blame us for laughing at that situation (which ended up being pretty serious), I think you're taking it a bit too seriously.  If a gay guy with a hammer was charging at Trump in his undies, I'd laugh my ass off just the same 

I wouldn't laugh at all because the context immediately makes the act not funny to me. Trump is an asshole but he's an old ass man about the same age as my dad and I wouldn't want to see him beaten senseless with a hammer. I think you're letting people off the hook on that one. People chose to see the humor so that they didn't have to feel any empathy or grapple with the idea that their side commits political violence as well. The target just made it easier because in their minds, they had already dehumanized him.

 

Notice how I haven't downplayed anything about the political violence on both sides but the right is quick to downplay violence committed against people on the left while amplifying instances of violence against the right. It's dishonest and it makes it harder than it should be to feel empathy. It's human to find it hard to feel bad for people that outwardly hate you and find glee in your suffering. When you nickname yourself the "fuck your feelings" crowd, yeah people might not feel very nicely about you.

Yes but I think that always is a predisposition to assume this time is like last time.  Conditions us.  True, until it's not.

 

Again I have no clue what might be what with this particular shooter.  I am always fascinated though how we as a society think we know something about them beyond the fact they did what we did.  And in turn steer the narrative to fit, often led by our chosen confirmation bias based news sources.  

 

Bit like Taleb's Black Swans in that we only see the possibilities that already exist in our minds.  I don't think this one will end up so unique. Probably will be another angry kid.   But watching people so rapidly try to box up and wrap the whole ordeal up neatly because of Last Time provides a lot of insight in and of itself.
