I completely agree. In fact it will almost certainly be loved again in the future when people realize it's actually a great logo. You're completely correct about it too. There is really nothing separating the flaming thumbtack from the Steelers, Packers or 49ers logo other than brand familiarity. I could argue the Niners logo sucks when you consider what they could have with their name. The only old logos that are truly great the Dolphins one from the 70s and the Raiders. Fans like the teams and the history, not the logos. Exactly. They have stood the test of time and become iconic. Just like a logo should. BTW I am in favor of keeping the old flaming thumbtack logo. I don't see a problem with it and think we should stick with it. The new one is fine, and I'm just saying calling a logo simple or boring is not really a fair criticism of the logo because simple and boring is perfectly fine and perhaps even preferred to something that is overdone or too busy. Hyperion
For all the talk of old logos and 'classic'. It's interesting how much character a lot of these much older logos had relative to what is considered 'classic' now. Look at some of the following. I think all of these are great and it's a crime they aren't used more. I wish the Titans could create something with the spirit of the following. I can appreciate it but still think it was forced and hokey. Like someone in corporate said "you know what we need, an animal mascot"... or with the titans - "this logo needs some pop, add some flames. Make em off center because that's the trend" My logo preferences are lasting, classic... iconic - almost stoic. Simplicity and balance are often pillars to that style. I typically agree with the "less is more" philosophy and I don't hate the flame-less logo. I just don't agree that the Titans current logo should become a victim of that philosophy. If it's changed, so be it. I'll accept it. But until then I'm going to be vocally against it.
CreepingDeath
This franchise has a goofy "character" design in its history, too. Callidus, and titanruss

I like the Statllions Number font but the gold jerseys are bad. However the Aviators look with Stallions number font I would not mind as Titans look. Fans like the teams and the history, not the logos. Lots of fans like the old Oilers uniforms because of nostalgia for the Oilers. As someone who did not care about the Oilers, I always thought the oil derrick was bland and dumb. Now, I totally understand Amy wanting to capitalize on Oilers nostalgia. Nashville is full of transplants and college football fans. We are one of the most popular spots for out of state fans to visit. Between these realities and the Titans sucking for so long, and being in a small market, it's been hard to gain a lot of new fans. So it makes sense from a business perspective to go with nostalgia to sell new merchandise and the new stadium. But that is why I called the decision corporate. They are quite literally going away from the almost all history from Tennessee's version of the team, including a different color scheme and any connection with original mythology and marketing. Circular logos and known for being easier for branding and usage (literally is a button). Classic, timeless branding to make fans remember the Titans Oilers. I wouldn't take PKs on anything design or style related or the history of design. Sure, there's definitely an argument for survivorship bias that gets mixed with nostalgia. But design is a language and balance / simplicity are roots that will be classic forever. They are elemental to design and came about along with written and spoken language and society. These principles of design are a language we formed to translate ideas like health, safety, food, shelter, water, storm, danger, abundance clearly before written words were even used. I could go for hours about the issues with the last logo: The flames are too busy, along with them coming to a point away from the T pulls the eye off the logo and away from what is important. Whats important? The T or the flames? This team sure looks like flaming out was more important lately. The unbalanced nature makes appropriate placement on merch and logo'd items difficult and inconsistant. Costs more and takes longer to print and sew, harder to read clearly on certain media and sizings... etc. So regardless of Paul's ignorance to artistic language in favor of the written, there's still a laundry list of great reasons to swap update the logo to something more clean. Shying away from the greek stuff is ridiculous. You don't have to have mascots wearing togas to lean into it a little more. And notice, you don't have to do away with the navy blue/two tone blue either. Starkiller, TampaTitan, MadMax, and 3 others
