It’s also worth noting that Henry led the NFL in rushing attempts and had zero fumbles….something hasn’t happened in almost 40 years.   The last guy to do this was Gerald Riggs way back in 1985.

Look at all those defenders chasing down a rolling tomato can!

Derrick Henry sure seems to get a lot of those "anybody could do it, perfectly blocked plays" ever since he was declared a bum by message board illuminati.    Luckiest back in history, I gue

I notice you didn't answer the question...

I did answer it by saying no team would use him on 3rd down... Mularkey and Vrabel aren't outliers when it comes to this...

No. You didn't answer my question. Answering a direct question with a hypothetical is not an answer.

He's average at best and really can only do screens or the check down turn around in the open zone stuff.

Henry has a limited route tree, for sure.

But in the Titans’ offense….the RB position is only targeted with screens, swing passes, and check downs .      Not just now, but also in years past across multiple coaching regimes.

Seriously:   in the 25 years since the team moved to Nashville,   we can probably count on our fingers the number of times a Titans RB was targeted with a pass that traveled 5+ yards downfield.

Even when they had tremendously talented and versatile pass-catching RBs like Demarco Murray and Dion Lewis who ran the entire route tree with their previous teams….when they came to Tennessee, they saw only screens, swing passes, and check downs.

Spears appears to be cut from a similar cloth….excellent skillset and versatility.   He’s been a downfield target maybe 3-4 times this year….which is almost as much as all other Titans RBs combined over the past 20+ years.    He’s still underused, IMO…but at least Kelly recognizes his versatility and is slowly moving in the right direction.

As far as Henry’s limitations as a receiver:   the things he can’t do are things the Titans rarely incorporate into the offense anyway…even for players who DO have that skillset.

So if you have a guy whose limitations prevent him from doing something you had little or no intention of doing in the first place….is it really a problem?

Well I'm glad you can actually admit that he does have those limitations.....but the Titans not being able to institute RB's into the modern passing game n wheel routes or slants like other teams o do is an entirely different issue altogether and an indictment of an antiquated offensive philosophy and a complete failure to pass block in order to do so.

Shawn Alexander has 100 rushing TD's and he's not in or getting in.....and he won an NFL MVP.....

Every other guy is also in the 12 K group aside from Riggins who had 11,352 yards but at the time of enshrinement was 6th highest in carer rushing yards and he has a league MVP, SB MVP, and was on 1 SB winning team as their star player.

Alexander is an outlier, he didn’t even reach 10k yards and only had 5 good seasons of play. He was also unlucky in that 4/5 backs of the same era got in

Henry has been an outlier at every level he's played at in terms of physical prowess and ability; why should anyone doubt that he'll be the same when it comes to longevity, given his ultra commitment to both training and recovery and his durability to date?

Henry has 86 rushing TDs in his career 15th in NFL history,he is 14 TDs from 100 and top 10 all time.

Henry has 9,176 career yards rushing which is just 824 yards from the 10,000 yard milestone.

Would be cool to see him at least one more season so he could reach these milestones in a Titans uniform instead of somewhere else.

Ratbirds were interested in trading for him at the deadline and thats the last damn place i would want to see him.

Henry is an outlier as well.  If he gets 12 K, he's in.  Close to it and he's got a shot.  That's assuming he doesn't drop off the cliff in the next year or so or simply has his carries reduced.

Henry SHOULD get in the NFL Hall and the reason why is for most of his career he has been a game changing RB and has set a lot of records....

He is 14 TDs from having 100 and would be top ten in TDs

A few hundred yards from going over 10,000 career rushing yards

First NFL RB with 180+ rushing yards back to back playoff games

Most rushing yards ever for NFL RB first 4 playoff games: 561 yards

First NFL RB ever 200+ yards in a game 3 straight seasons

First NFL RB ever 200+yd 4+TD game fewer than 22 runs

NFL record 6 games 200+ yds rushing 2 TDs

Longest TD run NFL history 99 yards tied with Dorsett

1 of only 8 RB in NFL history to gain over 2,000 yards in a season.

NFL record  TD run of 70 yards or more in 5 straight seasons (17-21)

NFL record 5 games 140+ yards 3 TDs share with LaDanian Tomlinson

Only NFL RB ever 1,250 rush yards 10 TDs over 8 game stretch

NFL record Most rushing yards over 8 game stretch NFL History 1,273 yards

NFL record Most consecutive 200+ yd games against one team

NFL record Most consecutive 2+ TD games against one team

8 seasons 86 rushing TDs only 2 other RB ever have Adrian Peterson & Eric Dickerson

12 TD runs over 50 yds only Jim Brown,Barry Sanders,Adrian Peterson,Chris Johnson have more,

2 TD runs over 90 yds only others to do so Bo Jackson,Ahman Green,Lamar Miller,Chris Johnson

Henry was the fourth player in NFL history with three games of at least 175 yards and three rushing TDs in first five seasons. The others? Jim Brown, LaDanian Tonlinson and Adrian Peterson.

In October 2021 Derrick Henry became the first NFL RB since Jim Brown (three) in 1958 to have multiple 100-yard, 3-TD rushing performances within a team’s first five games of a season.

The Titans finished 1st in Red Zone TD percentage in 2016 Henry's rookie year and finished 1st again in 2019 followed by ranking 2nd in 2020 and 5th in 2021 largely due to Henry.

NFL Offensive Player of Year 2020

Led NFL twice in rushing TDs and twice in rushing yards

How about you use all of the non-screen catches he's made over the years to inform your opinion? The proof is in the numbers; no back in Tennessee has been more productive than Henry in the passing game since he took over as the starter. He looks goofy running certain routes and catching the ball but he catches them and has a good catch rate including some catches made on balls thrown over his head and other made with immediate contact after. Either way, you assertion that this drop proves he shouldn't be out there while ignoring implying that all of the other catches he's made are irrelevant is illogical.

Vrabel largely takes Henry off the field on 3rd down.  There are two possibilities:

1.  Vrabel is correct and Henry has a poor skill set for the role.

2.  Vrabel is wrong and making a mistake.

Which is it?

There was camp highlights of Henry catching a like 30 yard over the shoulder grab on a wheel route.
