Titans New Stadium Discussion

We don't have that...all our tickets are sold to opposing teams.

Coming from someone who hasn't set foot in the stadium recently; the last 2 years, that simply hasn't been the case. Even the Buffalo game where the media tried to claim Bills Fans had taken over Nashville, ther were way more Titans fans there and they were much louder. The Indy game last year, Indy fans were a small percentage of the crowd; and that hasn't been the case in some of the previous years.

I'm still holding out hope Austin or San Antonio can swoop in at the last minute!

From the Q+A and the press release, it's real apparent  that they've been in touch with the NFL about SB viability. As for the non retractable roof, I'm sure it  has do with better climate control for winter and non football events. Bridgestone has the highest usage of any arena but many events have simply outgrown it. The new stadium will bascially be able to host anything, including major music events. You can't ask people to pay premium prices for those events and have them standing/sitting on a matted over grass field. They're thinking way beyond just the SB and football, which is what they shoud be doing given the investment from both the state and city; it's also a good concept for the Titans who will have a large stake in it. As for the 60,000 seat capacity; I'm sure there's gong to be a ton more of concourse space and there will be a lot of non fixed seat admissions available; goes against traditional fans but it's the wave of the future for younger, connected fans who want a live experience and 'being there' but don't want to be tied down to a seat.

Hosting a SB is entirely different than hosting the NFL Draft.  Come on.

Having attended both (Nashville draft and Arizona super bowl), the draft is a much larger scale event, but the super bowl is clearly more viewed. The draft covers so much more area and has more visitors.

That really surprises me.  I would think the opposite given the preparations that go into hosting a SB.  I'll take the L here.

The surprising thing I realized after seeing Nashville host the NFL Draft was that the NFL is phenomenal at planning and coordinating a large scale event.

Nashville has been terrible with traffic and logistics and tons of smaller events. The NFL came in and made the draft incredibly smooth. Getting in and out was relatively painless: the setup had lots of points of entry and exit so there weren't choke points, events were spread out, the TV/Draft portion was great for TV without being obnoxiously congested.

I've never seen a large event do the logistics so well.

If you ever have a chance to go to a super bowl city during the week of the game, I suggest you do it. I was in law school in Phoenix when the super bowl was in Phoenix. Much of the festivities took place downtown so they cancelled class for the week. So i went and partook in the festivities. It’s a great event that was a lot of fun. But when I attended the draft 4 years later in Nashville, it was clear that it was the bigger scale event because it’s all free. And every team is represented. At the super bowl, the cheapest ticket costs thousands and only 2 teams are represented.

Until recently, I don’t think the city would have had remotely the hotel capacity. Now it probably does.

Definitely.  They've been building hotels non-stop for the past 10 years.

Fair point, and I while I had planned to go if meathead and his good-ole-boys hadn't shit the bed again in the playoffs last-year, I don't foresee myself contributing money to an organization that doesn't grasp 21st century football.

That said, you don't have to be at the game to see fans from the opposing team throughout the stadium and in large numbers.  I can't blame fans for not buying tickets, as I don't think it's a good investment either.  It's just a little odd considering many of the  pure Titans fans (not Oilers holdovers like myself) like to act like TN and Nashville are so dedicated to the team.
