begooode
House Republicans nominated Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) to be Speaker in a closed-door conference meeting on Tuesday after he faced a last-minute protest challenge from Rep. Andy Biggs (Ariz.), a former chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus. McCarthy won easily, 188 to 31, in the internal conference meeting. But in the eyes of Biggs and his supporters, the goal was merely to demonstrate that McCarthy lacks the support to seize the gavel when the full House meets to choose the Speaker early next year. The 31 votes opposing McCarthy easily met that threshold, raising immediate questions about how McCarthy — who had failed to ascend to Speaker in 2015 — will make up the difference between now and then. The secret-ballot House Republican Conference vote is just the first step for McCarthy to take hold of the gavel. He must win a majority in a public vote on the House floor — at least 218 votes, assuming a fully sworn-in House — on the first day of the next Congress on Jan. 3. https://thehill.com/homenews/house/3736521-mccarthy-wins-gop-vote-for-speakership-handily-over-right-wing-challenge/

oldschool
Too bad the Senate GOP wasn't dumb enough to kick McConnell to the curb. Dude may be the most effective Senator of all time with regards to pulling the levers of government. MadMax, and tgo

Don “the victim” is going to get crushed in the primaries. Even his kids for the most part are staying away this time. Logic says that, but when has Trump failed to double down. He is pretty predictable. Also, the narcissistic injury of Liberals not liking him may find whole new levels if he sees the GOP lack of support as a betrayal.

This is the biggest easiest free money grift he could ever have and he gets publicity daily from it to feed his ego. if he loses he can blame republicans and plenty are dumb enough to believe him. If he wins then he will just do whatever he wants again and make himself and his kids untouchable. I bet he will continue to "run" and raise money probably after he's long dead. Whenever any repubs do well he takes credit , and if they do not show deference to him, Trump quickly says they are disloyal after he 'made them'. Everything that runs counter to lauding him (whether true or not) is a personal slight. And it's often with a grandiose theatric viewpoint -- playing out on a stage. Just about the worst traits a leader can have. And now dgaf Frankenstein is coming for the villagers.

He would 100% run as a 3rd party. His life goal is to settle petty grievances. If the GOP won't submit to him then he will want to make them pay by making them lose that could either mean by him winning as a 3rd party (he'd believe it) or by making them lose b/c he stole votes from them as a 3rd party candidate. And he thinks he needs the shield against prosecution of the presidency so if he doesn't win the GOP nomination, his only hope would be to win as a 3rd party candidate. 100% he'd run as a 3rd party. Bonus: He gets to continue to grift money from his supporters.

He can try to sabotage whoever wins without running in the general where he’ll get a humiliatingly low number of votes.
