The Athletic podcast went deep into how Jonnu has actually been the Fins featured pass catcher and they are using him to combat the defensive strategy used to cover Hill/Waddle.

And still finished the block after stonewalling the inside defender and then moving outside to spring Henry.

 

Robinson really fucked up an elite roster by not offering contract extensions to Davis, Jonnu, and Conklin before their last year. I understand the injuries to Jonnu and Conklin left that in a sub-optimal place, but in reality it just means we would have gotten a discount and kept an elite offensive core in-tact.

Yup. This was my criticism of him way back when but I always loved him. It's too bad New England went absolutely insane when they paid him but you can see what they were seeing. He's one of the more dynamic TEs in the league and might be the most dynamic with the ball in his hands.

I think Chig is more talented than Jonnu but the playcalling is the problem in TN.  Cally seems to have woken up that Levis needs to throw the ball down the field.  If he continues to put up huge plays you can live with some of his warts as long as he does not turn it over.

Exactly!!!! The team/Vrabel never even reported it. He tore it with like 3 games left in 2018. It wasn't reported until the offseason. 

 

He returns in 2019 and started the season as if nothing even happened. 

 

He also recovered from the boiling water incident from his baby momma in record time. Guy doesn't even have a scar.

Miami just does such a great job of scheming guys open with all their shifts and motions. Sooner or later teams will have to respect smith and it’ll open the deep spaces once again for waddle and hill.

Perhaps a bit more nuance in his route running after 8! Years in the league? He was as explosive as any TE in the league ball in hand but I never imagined he could be this type of high volume target type. He’s really on a tear right now & it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out….

On the topic of current & prior Titans TE’s it’s kindve starting to piss me off that Thomas Odukoya has been the best TE on the roster in preseason by a healthy margin & just absolutely kills guys blocking. He plays so hard as well. Also from what I can recall he’s also been good in practice in camp, and seemed to impress a bit as a pass catcher.

 

I don’t presume to know things like this but  watching him play the last 2 preseasons, reading the reports of how good he’s looked in practices, & knowing that size (very big 6’6 263) & especially energy (think that tackle on the 3 in the N.O. Preseason Game & his bone crunching blocking) translate.  Guys that play that hard help teams in little ways throughout a season. 
 

Blocking for a TE is a very useful trait as well, and this isn’t just in the Stone Ages. Go watch a ton of ‘09 CJ & see how important Craig Stevens & Alge Crumpler were by caving in the edges. It also helps in opening up downfield shots in PA, max protect type plays.

 

Thsts the end of my ramble, I just think  the kids clearly earned a look on the big roster & could actually help a bit.
