He was open om every one of those plays. Even the endzone one where he is running through contact was good if the ball is on his outside shoulder.

Only on the 1st, and it took him forget to break away from the defender (who slipped).  Ward is going to have a tough time if the 2nd play is his bar for being "open".

7 series for the offense then!

JFC, it’s the first half of a preseason game for a second year guy learning a new offense.  This is why checking this thread is a bad idea.

The first and last play he is open. The endzone play the dude is on him and its good coverage but you drafted a guy like tate so that is 75/25 ball if you place it right.

The end zone play was the wrong read. The ball never should have gone to Tate. He was running a 2 yard out against press coverage. There's not enough time and distance to create separation. It had nothing to do with Tate's speed or route running. A ball thrown high would have given him a chance, but the DB was grabbing and holding on too...which the refs usually let go within a yard or so of the LOS.

Cam looked out and saw 1 on 1 and wanted throw a jump ball before the play even started. He didnt do his in-play read and stared down Tate basically from presnap through the end of the play.

Be careful. Your love of Tate is going to lead you down the path of disliking Ward.  Tate is supposed to make Ward's job easier- not the other way around.

If we're talking abut the one to the edge-  it looked liek a presnap read and even as fast as it was- was a bit late.  That looked like a presnap read- well placed ball and a really well defended pass attempt. Sometimes- the other guy just makes a play.

It had to be that fast or faster to have any chance at succcess.

Saleh said it was an option play and the proper read was to the back... likely a post snap read based on the edge coming up. To me, Ward clearly decided to go to Tate presnap because he was 1v1. And it appears they have enough rope to do that. My only evidence is his head is looking at Tate from basically before the snap until the end of the play.

I'll need to see it again to look at everyone else but it didnt appear to me that Tate was the #1 read on the read option pass... because I dont see how that you could draw that play up and expect that route to be open after the fake to the back.

But yeah, Ward has to throw it immediately to Tate there and maybe he thinks he still needs to carry that RB fake out and thats the delay.

Ward had a bad game, I am not going to jump on him, first time iv mentioned him since the game I think. It wasn't just tate he was missing passes twords.

I also have lower expectations than some for ward so I can tolerate a bit more. I think he will be good, i just dont know if he will be elite.

They were quick passes and he had position to make the catch. Ward just misfired on the throws.

No doubt Ward had a bad game but you've also spent months hyping up and defendind Tate.  You're set up for some serious cognitive bias on any pass from Ward to Tate.

In my defense i didnt say a word till terry brought up tate. I also didnt say ward threw the ball into the stands or anything. The first one should have been thrown a tad sooner and the goaline one should have been in obvious spot up and out.

Pretty standard stuff. Would you disagree if i was anyone else saying it?

Edit: Your point is noted though. Not going to be throwing ward under the bus for tate. My over the top nature of pounding the table for tate was half really liking him and half the lack of intrest in him/dislike of him durring the process.

When did I bring up Tate?
