These hires need to be entrenched a bit in order to understand local conditions and player needs. Grade them compared to the rest of the league as far as injuries and improvements and on field strength/speed/quickness metrics with the understanding that injuries are unpredictable and some bad streaks happen. The hires need to be familiar with how local weather, practice conditions, foods and field surfaces can affect injures. Firing them and starting over with every new coach messes up the off-season exercise programs too. I'm going to suggest the possibility that if the only person who thinks he should be promoted is the guy who's been his good friend outside of work for a few decades, that's probably not a good sign he's qualified. I would add more to that. Its like a restaurant looking for a new assistant manager. You have two guys who are both waiters. They both are the top guy on their shift. However, one of them takes orders and delivers food and trains new people. The other helps host, bus tables and in kitchen along with the same stuff the other guy does. Both may have the same job title and do the same basic stuff for that job well. But one has done alot more giving them more idea of what will be under their control if they are promoted.
