Titans Offseason Discussion Thread

Don't rule out Trey Hendrickson.

32y/o coming off core muscle surgery would be a departure from what Borgonzi did last year.

Curious to find out whether Spotrac or OTC have already factored in this extra salary cap room or whether its something they will add when the New League Year begins.

Would assume the insurance would involve Sneed's contract and possibly Ridley's.

No idea where this nugget fits so thought it might worth starting a thread for all Titans non HC offseason discussion.   This was meant to happen last offseason but Sweat never showed up so

Who will we draft? The answer has been there the whole time.

That’s a lot of hooch

Hendrickson had core muscle surgery on his hip/pelvis in early December with a projected 6 weeks recovery period.  So his recovery should already be complete.  Still plenty of time to bring him in, do a workout and full medical evaluation.

The second report of the Titans being aggressive in free agency is a clear signal to players and agents not to sign with their existing team and to test free agency if they want to get paid. Borgonzi is setting himself up as the top dog for players to get paid.

And btw, how are the Titans going to be aggressive if AAS is a terrible owner who is broke and doesn't have a good cash flow?

I'm all for giving Alex Pierce 4 yr $100m if the Colts can't re-sign him. Would be the 15th highest paid WR in the league behind Waddle, Jameson Williams, DJ Moore. His AAV would quickly rank in the 20's for WRs after another offseason or two. Essentially high-end WR2 money throughout much of the contract

I want Hendrickson and Bain tbh.

Hendrickson, Simmons, Sweat, Bain is a pretty strong line.

Then on pure passing downs you do something like Hendrickson, Simmons, Bain, Key.

Signing an older, expensive defensive player doesn’t make sense for the Titans. That’s a move being made by a win-now team.

I wouldn't call them a win now team, but they do need to start winning some games. And is signing an older guy less sense than signing an expensive young guy if you're planning on taking an edge at 4?

I think our LBs are fine and safeties have a ton of potential. Hooker is good and KWJ has potential to be very good. The biggest needs are pass rush and corner.

If the Titans sign a corner and someone like Hendrickson (doesn't have to be him but he's the top guy atm) then draft Bain, our line potentially becomes elite which makes our LBs look even better and our corners even better and it makes our good safeties look elite.

This defense isn't as far away as some around here seem to think. And if the defense plays better, it takes a ton of pressure off the offense.

There is no good argument for keeping Levis. He has no future here. He can’t help mentor Ward. He won’t play meaningful snaps unless Ward is injured.

But they could trade him. And if they trade him for a day 3 draft pick then at least that guy might contribute to the Titans at some point…

He’s a cheap backup who could be actually decent with a real OC…

I've been intrigued by Boye Mafe.. projected by Spotrac at 12-15 million per year .. he is the Seahawks edge player..his sack numbers were down this year (2) but I honestly don't know why.. he also played a lot less snaps.. he's young (26) and has traits that might work well on the new defense.. anyone study him and can explain the recent drop in production??

Maybe they just had him in rotationally... RBBC approach, but with edge rushers.

While the sack numbers weren't there this year Mafe did ok in some of the other advanced metrics and his age profile certainly fits into the preferable range.

We all know Saleh loves heavily rotating his DL so wouldn't hate signing Mafe to become part of the pass rushing arsenal.

With so much cap room and reportedly more coming it wouldn't surprise to see Borgonzi have multiple irons in the fire in the FA pass rush market working his way down his list until he secures one.

With just under 23 days until the legal tampering window opens its wait and see mode to see whether the Chargers tag Odafe Oweh or the Eagles tag Jaelan Phillips. With how much cap room they have it makes sense for the Chargers to keep Oweh but if they don't tag him much like the Colts and Alec Pierce they are relying on Oweh and his agent not testing FA because if that happens the potential bidding war could price him out of the Chargers.

One of the huge unknows ahead of FA with so much available cap room is whether players who you assume will just re-sign with their current teams will instead decide to actually test the market. Not every player we just assume will re-sign with they current team will as some will actually test FA and see the money available there is on a crazy level that their current team just won't match.

It won't happen but... I will say it would be fun to have KWJ if he ends up being what we think he could be and pairing him w/ Downs.

It won't happen but it'd be fun.

For a short-term contract with the limited FAs and the Titans' spending budget?  Why not?  What's the benefit of NOT signing an older, expensive defensive player (to a short-term contract)?

The Titans won't be able to land all of the best FAs, and it doesn't make sense to re-up contracts that are years away.  After giving extensions to those where it makes sense, there will still be money left-over.
