Exactly........McCarthy has won in the NFL. None of the others with head coaching experience can match his resume.

I am definitely warming up to McCarthy.

The knocks on the guy are that he is older and he didn't win in the playoffs with Dak and the Cowboys. His record with Rogers in the post season is a bit iffy too, but he did go on a run and get a bowl.

In terms of W-L-T overall his record is 12-5-1. Pretty strong case to say he has double the overall winning seasons.

I don't think Tomlin or Harbaugh will be available. Stefanski maybe.

Either way, I am starting to see McCarthy as more than just a safe choice--he might be a good one. Especially if we can pair him with a good up and coming coordinator who might be able to move into the coaching spot in 4-5 years if he decides to hang em up.

My thoughts.   I post infrequently nowadays but do want to do so tonight.  I have vacillated with each new entry into the HC/OC sweepstakes.  I studied what I could with available data on ea

FWIW on F Words Zach Lyons just said he heard the interview between McDaniel and the Titans went “very well”.

McCarthy has never won without a top tier quarterback. I think Cam can be one of those guys but that needs to be pointed out.

And he’s been running the same shit since 2011. After he left Green Bay the offensive line was talking about how much better the scheme was when LaFleur got hired. If you guys who complained about pre-snap motion and formation versatility with the TITANS this year, you better brace yourself for McCarthy lol Could he have adapted and changed with this year off? Totally possible. But he sure as hell didn’t even when he got to Dallas after that year off then lol he even lied to them about it in the interview process.

People keep bringing up his connections to Brinker and McKenzie but I keep having to point out how disastrously that ended in Green Bay. Not just for on field performance either.

Could they just take the safe option and settle with McCarthy? Totally possible. But he doesn’t move me as a candidate at all. But I’m not gonna pretend I’m an expert on coaching hires either. He very well could be the right guy right now.

McCarthy just seems to be the one that checks the most boxes.  Experienced, winning headcoach, has developed qbs, is offensive focused, connections to Titans FO.  Has worked for an org with the philosophy they are trying to build in TN.

I don't know if anyone else who checks as many boxes.

That connection to Titans Front Office connection could be good or bad for him. Brinker was there when he was ousted. Brinker was mainly just a scout throughout most of McCarthy's tenure. Reggie McKenzie actually probably has more of a relationship with McCarthy then Brinker ever did.

My guess is a shift to align more with what he did in college in terms of passing concepts to try and help him take the next step as a passer.

I do think Slowik would be a top 2 OC option for Weaver. Has the experience with a young QB and full control of the offense under a defensive HC. Coordinators are always better their 2nd and 3rd times around too.

I think Slowik, Mike LaFleur, and Nate Scheelhaase would all be OC Candidates for Saleh, Weaver, and Shula.

The thing about Nagy is that he is a "leader of men" type, but he isn't an offensive guru. And he doesn't have quite the charisma of Weaver, actually very very few coaches do.

To me, Nagy is a better HC than coordinator. The thing that alarms me about Nagy is that he's going to want to call plays. And Saleh said the other day that the one thing he wants to do different than his first HC stint is call defensive plays.

Personally, not a fan of the HC calling plays ideally. It has worked for other teams with legendary play callers, but it has never worked for us.

Wonder if Nagy could give up the ego trip and hire Kafka to do playcalling.

Here’s one viable defensive pathway that has been underdiscussed -

If they were to move toward a 4-3 base defense under Saleh or Schwartz (say as DC for Nagy or Smith or whatever in certain scenarios) - the quickest pathway to DL dominance could be this one:

1. Sign Hendrickson to a massive deal

2. Sign John Franklin Myers to supplement outside

2. Draft Peter Woods

Talk about a formidable front 4 with Simmons in there….

A lot of Saleh/LaFleur’s guys are available in FA too - Breece Hall, JFM, Alijah Vera Tucker, etc.

Having our defensive line average 30 years old probably isnt the best idea.

eh -  What it sounds like is that he looks like a great coach with a good qb and a bad one without one.   Same with Belicheck.   I dont expect the HC to be more than that.

Two things.

We have to believe in Cam. If Cam is not the guy, this hire will not last.

With McCarthy, the hope is that the time off and a good coordinator helps. I feel a lot more comfortable if he lands with a good coordinator. I'd take any head coach with the right OC.

The thing about Belicheck is the guy is clearly out of it at this point and being weekend at bernie's style puppeted by his onlyfans girlfriend.

You have to hope a McCarthy hire means he isn't fucking demented.
