Until you've reached the pinnacle of life financially, professionally with family and friends and then risked all of that as well as your reputation and legacy on some hedonistic fling you have not lived.

And just like that oman is a trumper.

Ignore rhe part where he was given the money and never had a good reputation.

My thoughts.   I post infrequently nowadays but do want to do so tonight.  I have vacillated with each new entry into the HC/OC sweepstakes.  I studied what I could with available data on ea

FWIW on F Words Zach Lyons just said he heard the interview between McDaniel and the Titans went “very well”.

Im legitimately not talking about championships people. Im strictly talking brand. You guys are getting hung up on championships.

Their brand was in the toilet when Holtz retired and they went through  a few coaches in the 2000s.

They got bypassed by other schools in terms of brand name too.

Want to argue that it’s top 10?  No issues there.  But as the top brand in NCAA Football they are not.

I dont think Notre Dame is scared to join a conference. They just believe their own hype and for good reason. They are College Football's biggest brand

They are scared to join. They get all the benefits without having to pay out to a pool.  If they join a decent conference and don't dominate, it hurts them. They have a better chance of making the playoffs as an independent.... so they are scared to join.

They also are not the biggest brand. Maybe 5th as far as money pulled in. They may be the most media hyped every year but they are far from the powerhouse they believe themselves to be.

Texas, Michigan, Ohio state, Georgia, Alabama are all likely make more money than Notre dame on a year to year basis.

Im only talking brand. Cultural relevancy.... the only schools competing with ND are Bama and Texas. Ohio St is at #4.

In terms of revenue (which is not what this is about) im pretty sure its Georgia and Ohio St. Georgia has nowhere near the common popular brand recognition as ND though. ND has an entire network to itself!

Alabama, I dont think is even in the top 10 of revenue yearly

Yep.  In terms of the year , 2025 Notre Dame is not up there in terms of cultural relevance.  They really haven’t produced any player that transcends the sport.

Michigan has Brady.  He’s doing the Fox Games every week.  And even if you just watched nothing but Super Bowls in the past 20 years you’d know he went to Michigan.

find a way to define or track that and we can discuss but as it is now it sounds like you base your big time football brand list based on movies made in the 1980's.

How do you even score relevance? Total mentions on the internet? Total merch purchased?

To me it's pretty clearly what their value average has been the last 15 years along with record and week to week views.

You could argue ND has the biggest historical relevance but that's nostalgia and not current Brand.

I read a report that Saleh, 49ers defensive coordinator and ex-Jets head coach will be a candidate.

That would be a good fit if he gave open field to the offensive coordinator.

Of all the ex headcoach candidates hes my favorite. We would atleast know we will have a legit defense. The oc would definitely be key though

I like those aspects too, plus it would make for a better offensive coordinator who could run his own system instead of working under an offensive head coach.  Saleh gets pressure from 4 lineman so while aggressive it would hold well.

The immediate uplift for the jets defense when he got there and total collapse when he was fired was fairly crazy. Gives his ability a ton of credibility.

He hasn't been getting alot of presure this year with sf but the defense without their two best players is still good.

There has been some stats floating around over the last couple of weeks comparing the Jets defense over the last 17 games Saleh was there with the next 17 games and they were #1 in multiple categories and dropped to #31st-#32nd in some categories after he left.
