Titans fire Callahan; Mike McCoy Named Interim

I think people are misusing the term system. I doubt anyone thinks they are going to be starting over from scratch with a whole new language and philosophy for the offense.

What I think most people are saying and which is very doable is just chsnge the play calling on a substantial level.

Its not like our offense was a triple option where the stuff people want run now are not in the current playbook.

Yep. We saw the same shit with Hardgree as we saw with Callahan because he was still completely running Callahan's system. Look at the 3 runs and a punt to start the Raiders game. Anyone think we'll be seeing that under McCoy?

Most playbooks are filled with 90% the same plays. The flow of play calling is a real thing. Changing to Hardgree doesn't remove Callahan as a pivotal point as he's still completely overseeing and dictating the structure of the offense.

The offense talent wise is not so bad as to be the worst in NFL history, but that's where we are after 6 games. I expect to see the team be competitive. It doesn't mean we won't get the doors blown off a time or 2 as this is a bad team. It's still the NFL. This isn't college football where you have 35 point spreads.

Exactly. You can suck just as bad while running different things. I think that some, maybe not @oldschool specifically think that different will equal better. I'm skeptical of anything more than the marginal improvement that can happen by chance or playing weaker opponents. A good example is the Cards win. Outside of one quarter we were no better but they were so bad we somehow won. Shit like that is bound to happen occasionally throughout a season.

The 4th quarter against the Cardinals was done mainly against prevent defense.

Speaking of hurry up, how much do you guys think we can actually run?

Even if we see our offensive output double, the strain running the no huddle 70% of the time would put on the defense feels unsustainable.

Or are we at the point where winning game plan be damned, just try and get the offense to function?

Basically even if we start scoring 25 a game, if the defense now has to play 20 more snaps a game and gives up another 10 points we realt dont move closer to winning.

Good point, and you do that in a heartbeat if it leads to the offense getting some sustained success.

The pass to Ridley on the last drive didn’t look like prevent….

That's why I said mainly. Obviously they weren't in prevent the last drive.

Oh you meant the deep middle one. That was essentially a nickel/dime Tampa Two with Baker running the deep middle. He's supposed to be covering that area but tried to cut off the in breaker 15 yards down field to stop the first. Yeah that's still extremely soft shell defense and Ward just hit them with an amazing throw.

You know, about a day after the Titans signed Ridley and he made public comments, I realized Carthon was an idiot. The man seriously said that they had not planned to go after him, but when they lost on their other two targets (Autry and AAS) they pivoted.

Basically he said “I’ve got to burn this cash somewhere!!”

He told that story with so much joy and pride, you would have thought he had signed rice away from SF in his prime.

Also buck liked that story way more than he should have. You pitched getting Ridley wearing nothing but a towel? Please... do go on...

Not to shit on Ran again but my first eye brow raising moment was like two weeks into the job when he talked about how important sleep is lol

For me it was in the first presser when he talked about building an offense around a RB
