There's a much longer response to this, but I'll just say Sauron would have easily prevented that. Not sure how that relates anyway, as this is an entirely different story with entirely different rules that have been established within the world. My favorite GoT podcast (A Cast of Kings) starts off this week with the host saying "Eastwatch" is one of his least favorite episodes in the entire series. One of the top reddit posts on the asoiaf reddit is "The worst writing in the show since Dorne?" and it has over 6,000 upvotes. There's also a GQ article here about the show getting lazy with the details: https://www.gq.com/story/game-of-thrones-season-7-episode-5-recap The fact is we need to hold them to a higher standard and demand better. The production values have never been higher, but season 8 needs to rebound in a big way, particularly when it comes to the story.
