He simply doesn't get it and likes to pigeon hole every scenario in a way that says he's seen it all and knows it all. "Why do Titans fans fall in love with late round picks? I've seen this before and its frustrating." The "why do Titans fans fall in love with late round picks" complaint is a big fat nothing burger. ALL team's fans do this. Why? Because everyone loves an underdog and because everyone is acutely aware of the fact, thanks to the media (of which PK is just another working stiff), that Terrell Davis and Tom Brady were both 6th round draft picks. So yeah, shove stuff like that down everyone's throats and then criticize them when they start to like the taste and want more. Lol Acting like Titans fans are especially cringe or lame for doing it is what's cringe and lame. It's just a natural part of football fandom. PK and all of his ilk need to get the fuck over it. 4 hours ago, Pragidealist said: Instead of seeing the freshness of it and what makes it an interesting story. He was ranked higher before his 40. Then he fell. It raises an interesting question- is production or measurable athleticism more important? That makes him interesting and new. He was a go to target for our #1 overall pick. Getting them both with that chemistry is rare. That makes him interesting and new. Cam literally campaigned for him. That makes him interesting and new. He was VERY productive in college but fell all the way UDFA. That is rare. That makes him interesting and new. You can sit and say he will fail bc his measurable athletics are too subpar. That's completely fair and likely a correct assessment. No, it isn't fair or a correct assessment. It's myopic and an incomplete assessment. Also, I love how the similarly poor RAS scores of other successful receivers in the league are completely ignored or glossed over. People love to shit on those who are overly enamored with sub 4.3 times but can't seem to take the same medicine when they are, by the same token, overly critical of slow times. The bottomline is that if Restrepo doesn't make the 53 it won't be because he ran a poor 40 in March. If they were judging him by his 40 they never would have signed him in the first place. 4 hours ago, Pragidealist said: But missing why Restrepo is interesting is just dumb and particularly egregious for a journalist who is supposed to be trained to see stories in live events. The only story PK is interested in is the one where everyone gargles his balls for being perma-right about everything under the sun. Using ChatGPT deep research (source warning), I looked back at the WR's drafted that had back to back 1000 yard college seasons- and then went undrafted. None of these guys panned out. The best case for Restrepo is Welker who has similar measurables to Restrepo. The problem is (to the point of many here) he was able to find early spots on rosters as a ST guy. Now he later- became much more. Here are the reasons Chat identified he was succussful and these others were not and its analysis/summary seems on point to me and match what many here are saying. Restrepo might be able to match 3 of the 5 criteria it mentioned. Football IQ/Route Running, Durability/Toughness, and Scheme Fit. But he really needs to contribute (in a big way) on ST and that seems a stretch for him. Where he has a new edge - is his chemistry and timing with Cam. As BC tries to make Cam as comfortable as possible- maybe that factors in... but to ask a rookie wr to be any sort of safety blanket for a rookie qb is a tall order. So I think all the opinions that Restrepo probably won't pan out are valid. But in my opinion- he has a chance.. and its a cool story if he does. One worth talking about. Idk how I became the most dogged defender of the guy. He wasn't who I wanted them to target and I typically don't even care about all the NWIs/Kyle Phillips. I'm not even saying the guy will be high on the depth chart. All I'm doing is not counting the guy out and acting like he's just another UDFA. Grizz
I have not waded through the whole thread but it seems like part of the issue is that--we're even discussing the guy? What exactly are fans supposed to do? It is free to find an interesting story and invest in training camp guys, hoping they pan out. No reasonable person on this board is betting their life savings on Restrepo or getting his name tattooed on their arm. The dumbest thing that might happen is some idiot with disposable income might drop 150 on fanatics for the Restrepo 87 jersey that ends up at Goodwill in a couple of years. It's a good story, and it is different from the other examples that Chat GPT drummed up because of Cam Ward. He is here because of Cam Ward. Ward fought for the guy. He apparently advocated to every team in the draft process to get him. It's a cool story--why else do we follow sports? It's entertainment. There is nothing else to do during the offseason except look at the guy we bring in, discuss them, and hope for the best. All fans do it. I'd rather entertain possibilities than be some kind of curmudgeon pissing away all hope. Justafan, TF_Titan, and Pragidealist 2
