Add in the total whiffing of picks in past by previous GMs (2023 looks suspect now aside from Skronski) and that’s why it was always going to be tough this year . They just don’t have enough picks and high level starters as a foundation to build upon. A big reason why I think their original desired outcome at the start of the process was to drum up interest for the pick and trade out for a haul. Overdrafting a receiver or an edge that's a little raw at 35 instead of a backup OL who could grow into a starter within a year WHILE IN A REBUILD is simply retarded. That's some Ruston Webster bullshit that yall can miss me with

You'd have to measure success/failure in terms of progress/continuous improvement as opposed to only wins and losses. From a rebuild standpoint, winning a couple of more games and still picking top 5 in 2026 but having your QB situation and OL solved would be a perfectly suitable outcome. Agreed. If this team won 5-6 games but plays much more competitively and Ward looks like the franchise QB for the next 10+years I'll take it. The Lions went 3-13 in Campbell's first year. They got progressively better each year. 2025 is more about the foundation. It's really about 2026/2027 and beyond. The greatest GM of all time couldn't fix this roster overnight. It's going to take awhile. People aren't patient but it's going to take patience. For 2nd round maybes: Uman, APR, Sav Jones if he can standup AND play that Autry role. I like Jack Sawyer but more as an inside linebacker who can play coverage on 3rd downs. I don't see any of these guys moving the needle on wins, but I see that win needle moving the wrong direction quickly with injuries to this new OL

I think Strunk will judge Brinker and Borgo on what the team looks like in 2027. Callahan's fate will be left to Brinker/Borgo after this season. And I'd say the odds look promising that Callahan is canned during or after this coming season... Edited April 9, 2025 by japan

That's some Ruston Webster bullshit that yall can miss me with I mean on some level the draft can be a pretty simple thing to figure out. Grade every player. Come up with a decision making process that bridges the gap between need and value. If we grade out a OL that is overwhelming better than the EDGE or WR at 35 of course we should take them. But if there is a lineman we grade at 25 and a WR we grade at 30? The team will have a process. A post like this one-- "draft the guy who can grow into a starter within a year" versus the guy that's a "little raw"... What's the actual difference here exactly? If there was a player who we thought would be a day one starter I'd hope we'd consider them. By that logic, if a player like Henderson is available we should go RB. That would kind of piss a lot of folks off I imagine--it's also the exact kind of move that landed us CJ2K.
