So what is it that inspired Trump to suddenly change his tune a week later? Is this guy suddenly no longer a threat to national security? Or is Trump sending a message that he’s okay with a to national security risk if the price is right? Seems to be that the federal government assuming an ownership share in private industry is the very definition of socialism, is it not? The government’s equity stake will be funded by the remaining $5.7 billion in grants previously awarded, but not yet paid, to Intel under the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act and $3.2 billion awarded to the company as part of the Secure Enclave program. Intel will continue to deliver on its Secure Enclave obligations and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering trusted and secure semiconductors to the U.S. Department of Defense. The $8.9 billion investment is in addition to the $2.2 billion in CHIPS grants Intel has received to date, making for a total investment of $11.1 billion. So instead of just giving Intel grant money, which doesn't have to be repaid, Trump got the US people something for its money. It’s still socialism. Personally, I don’t have a problem with it. I’m not one of those who tries to pretend socialism is a bad word. I just find it interesting that Republicans are apparently fine with socialism where it benefits multi-billion dollar corporations….but flatly refuse any consideration for a national healthcare program that would benefit American citizens directly. Starkiller
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/22/us/politics/homeland-security-foia-text-messages.html The Department of Homeland Security rebuffed a request for public records related to the National Guard deployment in Los Angeles this summer, saying that the agency had not maintained text message data among top officials since early April, according to its communications with a nonprofit watchdog group. A July 23 letter from the Homeland Security Department’s public records office, in denying the request from the nonprofit American Oversight, said that “text message data generated after April 9” was “no longer maintained.” The group had requested all messages received and sent by top department officials related to the deployment of the National Guard in the Southern California city, which President Trump authorized in response to protests over immigration raids. The agency gave a similar response on Thursday to a request for communications about the migrant detention camp in the Everglades called “Alligator Alcatraz,” telling American Oversight that it was “unable to locate or identify any response records” since the agency “no longer has the capability to conduct a search of text messages.” Under the Federal Records Act, government agencies are required to preserve all documentation that officials and federal workers produce while executing their duties, and they have to make federal records available to the public under the Freedom of Information Act unless they fall under certain exemptions. The Homeland Security Department has previously come under scrutiny for failing to preserve public records. After Mr. Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol in 2021, text messages sent and received by Secret Service agents around the time of the attack were erased, even after an inspector general had requested them as part of his inquiry into the events of Jan. 6. Personally, I hardly ever delete text messages. My current phone has virtually every text message I've sent or received since 2017. Meanwhile, the Trump administration claims they can't provide text messages from just a couple months ago.....despite being required by law to maintain those records. But of course, DHS is under no obligation to respect and obey the law....because there's zero risk of the Trump's DOJ holding them accountable. Anyone who preaches and believes in government transparency should be absolutely incensed by this.....but I'm guessing most of them won't say a word.
