Patriots hiring Vrabel

Kraft hiring Vrabel last year had some optics that were bad whereas doing so this year is an easier sell.

  • They had the Mayo ascension clause after BB and ignoring that would look awful PR and Rooney Rule wise (although what he did this year is more shameful)
  • Getting rid of Belichick for Vrabel when they are so similar is a weird change whereas Mayo was fresh and unknown
  • Mayo doing pretty badly in HC stuff and team record wise showed he was not ready but you can sell we tried
  • Vrabel going to the Jets for NE is way too Parcells/Belichick stuff all over again.  Kraft would die before seeing Vrabel succeed in NY while he was stuck with Mayo.

Shit, if only I could be alpha like Righteous.

Vrabel magically turned into a good coach the week Tannehill stepped in as the starter. The team was 2-4 before that. Vrabel had a losing record before that.    Anyone that watched camp and

Uh, the Titans were 6-18 in Vrabel's last 24 games   The decline started before Callahan got here

The clause does not need to be binding to make the organization look horrible via Kraft showing that his word means nothing. Mayo is not just some guy. He's someone that  played for a decade there, was raised in that organization as a coach, groomed for the job, and likely passed on promotions from other organizations based on Kraft's word. Your hands don't actually have to be physically tied up for you to feel that your hands are tied. You understand all of this perfectly well, you've just completely dug in and nothing short of Kraft himself saying it will do. Literally no one that actually works in or follows this market agrees with you on this.

Now we finally agree. The optics would have been bad but let's be honest they are terrible now and no one cares.

It would have been worse last year with meathead basically forcing his way out.

Hard to deny that Vrabel actually carries himself like someone in a leadership position of an NFL team, while Callahan looks like the guy who feeds the fishes at Bass Pro Shop

Yep....your photo illustrates his leadership style perfectly.

Now? I said this yesterday. This was Vrabel's job from jump and would've been last year. It's like your ex-wife getting engaged with a new guy days after she asked for a divorce. Yeah, technically you can't prove she was fucking him but you look ridiculous telling other people that lmao.

Dude what are you claiming I said now? Lol. All I said was that they could have easily hired vrabel last year. Are you referring to the Ben Johnson thing? My comment on that was based on the fact Johnson took the interview but it's safe to say it didn't matter. I agree it was always vrabel's job. They probably interviewed Johnson as a way to claim the hiring process was legit.

I said that Vrabel being available this year affected Mayo's firing. You disagreed and said that if his availability was a factor they would have hired Vrabel instead. I brought up the contract language as part of the reason they stuck with Mayo. You essentially said it had 0 impact and that it had no reason for why Vrabel didn't end up last season. You keep insisting that Vrabel's availability had no effect on the Pats moving on from Mayo so quickly and that goes against pretty much everything we've seen and has been reported.

I can't think of another coach that's accomplished as little as Vrabel but is held up as some amazing HC

His hand in personnel, the staff's he's assembled and his playoff strategy/results are horrible.

It's all about image. He's a big strong alpha male and looks the part.
