Like I said that clause to make mayo the coach in waiting did not preclude them from going after Vrabel last year. All they would have had to do is buyout mayo's contract at the time. Trading Simmons to the Patriots to play with Mike Vrabel and watching them both win would not exactly help the cause. They need players.
