I have my doubts that Hunter is either an elite lockdown CB or an unstoppable WR. He’s a hell of an athlete, but I don’t know if he will be quite as elite as he’s being sold as.

I have my doubts too, but as an athlete he is a superior level generational athlete, and I have to think if he switched to corner almost full time, that his WR skillset and body control/understanding of route concepts would help him turn into a turnover machine ala prime Deion Sanders.

I think there's a reasonable chance that in 2-3 years he could be the best CB in the NFL, but it is a slight bit of a projection.

And fuck ESPN and the NFLN you pricks can't go to a commercial before the #1 pick.

Let us old-school football guys take a moment appreciate to the fact that the Titans earned the #1 overall pick the old-fashioned way.   Not by tanking or by trading up, but by simply being

I'd hate Hunter. The Titans best position is likely CB and you don't take a WR that high. If the Titans traded down to 3 and Carter went 2 I'd rather trade down again and maybe go for someone like Mem

There also seems to be this idea that if you build the team up, you won't have the draft pick to get a QB next year. That's just silly. Plenty of good QBs taken outside of the top 5 over the last 10-12 years. Sure I'm missing a few here too and this doesn't include the guys taken last year who look very promising.

Patrick Mahomes - #10

Josh Allen - #7

Justin Herbert - #6

Lamar Jackson - #32

Jalen Hurts - #53

Dak Prescott - #135

Aaron Rodgers - #24

Tom Brady - #199

Deshaun Watson - #12

Kirk Cousins - #102

Ryan Tannehill - #8

Russell Wilson - #75

Geno Smith - #39

Daniel Jones - #6

Justin Fields - #11

Jimmy Garropolo - #62

Davis Mills - #67

Derek Carr -#36

Mac Jones - #15

Sam Ehlinger - #218

Kenny Pickett - #20

Andy Dalton - #35

Half of that list isnt a real option if you want a superbowl and congratulations you found 20 guys outside the top 5 that qualify as names people know lol.

Exactly. SOMEONE will fall in love with these QBs. They do every year.

The idea that the overall consensus on a QB is that he doesn't even grade out to a first round pick...but then some team thinks he's a generational talent worth giving up a boatload of draft capital to get at #1...is pipe dream stuff. The only possible exception might be if the Raiders were to hire Deion as coach...in which case I'm sure they'd go all in on Shedeur. I wouldn't put money on it, but that's at least in the realm of possibility.

Teams are going to grade players differently. But given how much goes into the evaluation process of the top QB prospects it's highly unlikely the grades are going to be that drastically different.

The list of guys taken top 5 won't blow you away either. There are some gems and some stinkers on both lists. QB is always going to be a gamble and of course taking early gives you better shot of getting the right guy but I would argue that Burrow, Mayfield, Luck, Lawrence (even Williams, Young, Stroud, and Newton had more solid resumes compared to this year's class) were all very clean prospects coming out so to compare prospects to taking a QB this year, remove those names and see how this list feels to you because neither of this years QBs are 'clean' prospects.

2024: Caleb Williams (1st overall) - Bears

2023: Bryce Young (1st overall) - Panthers, CJ Stroud (2nd overall) - Texans

2022: None

2021: Trevor Lawrence (1st overall) - Jaguars, Zach Wilson (2nd overall) - Jets, Trey Lance (3rd overall) - 49ers

2020: Joe Burrow (1st overall) - Bengals, Tua Tagovailoa (5th overall) - Dolphins

2019: Kyler Murray (1st overall) - Cardinals

2018: Baker Mayfield (1st overall) - Browns, Sam Darnold (3rd overall) - Jets

2017: Mitchell Trubisky (2nd overall) - Bears

2016: Jared Goff (1st overall) - Rams, Carson Wentz (2nd overall) - Eagles

2015: Jameis Winston (1st overall) - Buccaneers, Marcus Mariota (2nd overall) - Titans

2014: Blake Bortles (3rd overall) - Jaguars

2013: None

2012: Andrew Luck (1st overall) - Colts, Robert Griffin III (2nd overall) - Redskins

2011: Cam Newton (1st overall) - Panthers

2010: Sam Bradford (1st overall) - Rams

And I'll add that I'm not even advocating Ward is worthy of the top pick or is anywhere close to the level of prospect we saw in the top 3 last year. But behind Nix,Penix, and McCarthy? Or not anywhere close to a 1st rounder? Please.

Right. Heard that Trevor Matich guy yesterday say that Sanders and Ward would be in front of Nix, Penix and McCarthy in his book. Who knows.  Crapshoot.

I've provided this list a few times. In the last 12-13 years there have been less than 20% of guys taken top 5 who became franchise guys for the team that drafted them. The hit rate in the 5-10 range is higher but still rough. Outside the 1st its terrible.

Being really good at two things pales in comparison to being great at one.

Erm, I was with this dickhead until he started saying JJ was worth #1 + more draft picks.

I think acquiring McCarthy would be the homerun swing of the offseason however. If we were able to trade back from #1, say to #6 from the Raiders + a 2026 FRP + a mid round pick, we could then swing a move with #6 to MIN for JJ and ~97. Something along those lines.

We should all be cheering for Darnold's linsanity run to continue. Let him ball out and fluke run his way into the Vikings deciding to commit to him for at least the near future.
