Ultimately, I think a big part of it was name ID. People never really got to know Harris. Shit some people I talked to were looking for the name Kamala on the ballot and didn't know her last name was Harris. Everyone knows Trump for good or for ill. The gender divide was also huge; young men are feeling left behind and alienated particularly by women and they resent them for it. I don't think this result will help them because they'll just double down on the behavior that is putting women off in the first place but it is what it is I guess. She did get fucking crushed in the Muslim-heavy counties of Michigan and deservedly so. I understand why those people turned on her; unfortunately for them I don't think Trump will be any better on the issue. No dem candidate wins in this climate because the vast majority of voters are ill informed. Now there were other factors like being a minority woman who was too far left for the middle of the country. I said 3 months ago she wouldn't carry the blue wall. This time is far more scary because those around him are actually organized. Trump isn't actually the scary part in this - it's those around him. I'm not withholding judgement of Trump as I did 8 years ago. I am withholding some hope that Project 2025 isn't enacted exactly at it is spelled out, but it's a small hope. We'll see how far it goes and probably have a good barometer by March. Fingers crossed.
