If Trump wins this, I think there are going to be a lot of disappointed people (those not completely smitten anyway). He has promised to end wars before even getting in office, and the benchmark for cost of living seems to be needing to make everything cost the same as pre-covid, which is actually a massive deflationary task and not going to happen. And somehow balance that with insane tariffs.

 

He'll win over some hardcore fans but his appeal is wider this time and I don't think this necessarily means his die hards have grown in number.

Their post pandemic inflation peaked higher and has persisted longer than in the US.

 

Global supply chain issues, greater money supply and energy disruptions from the Ukraine war all contributed. But the worlds economy is all connected and it was all fallout from covid and to a lesser extent Russia.

They are, in general, a varied version of that. Not to say there aren't good people in these towns because they're absolutely good folks, that also live in a very small bubble. 

 

My family is from those towns, I grew up, to a degree, in these towns. I get it, but they constantly vote against their own self interests for decades and just have poor educations and outcomes. 

 

Being a part of the majority doesn't mean you're right, but it'll be a momentary victory for them. They'll then get screwed over even worse then blame the "others". Big shocker, Trump, Elon, Rogan, Bezos aren't bringing business to Oshkosh, Decatur (IL), or the southern coastal cities or rural towns. 

 

They could get some basic social protections if they voted otherwise.

 

I'm sad for the country, but we all got what we deserved tonight.

It's a root issue that a lot of other issues grow out of. But merely shutting off the printer won't fix things.
