The problem was largely that she was boring. Trump didn’t beat her because of authenticity. He is incredibly inauthentic. He beat her because of charisma. He excited people. He put on a show. Yes, she was viewed as inauthentic, but in most ways I think that’s perception more than reality. And in others, where she was sometimes inauthentic, I think she learned the hard way that she wasn’t allowed to be authentic over decades of being a First Lady and then a politician herself. She was abused pretty horribly and learned to appear the way people wanted her to. And in the end that ended up being a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation.
