Pence announced that he’s running officially for some reason so I figured it was time to start this thread. Here’s the (*updated) candidates list (I left off a few nobodies)

Donald Trump

Ronald DeSantis

Nikki Haley

Tim Scott

Mike Pence

Chris Christie

Asa Hutchinson (former governor of Arkansas)

Doug Burgum (Governor of North Dakota)

Will Hurd (former Texas rep)

Francis Suarez (mayor of Miami)

Vivek Ramaswamy (?)

Larry Elder (nobody)

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has seen his approval rating fall dramatically two weeks after announcing his 2024 presidential bid. According to online polling company Civiqs' dynamic approval rat

Trump isn’t being charged  for political reasons.     He’s being charged because he spent two years openly flaunting federal law and willfully engaging in criminal activities related to  illega

For whatever this is worth:

Chattanoogan.com is a local news and events website here in Chattanooga;  based on the site’s articles, opinion pieces and reader polls, it’s fair to say their readership is roughly 70-80% conservative….and based on my past observations, their reader poll results typically offer a pretty accurate barometer  of the climate for Republican voters in general.

Last week’s poll asked readers how they would vote in next year’s presidential election if Trump and Biden were the only options .    The poll results:

Biden :  27%
Trump :  56%

Would not vote:  17%

Keep in mind, this is a local site in a deeply red area where 70-80% of  readers vote conservative…so it’s not at all surprising that only 27% of readers would vote Biden.

What *is* surprising is that nearly one in four conservative voters would simply refuse to vote at all rather than casting a vote for Trump.

If one sees the residents of Southeast TN/ Northwest GA  (aka MTG’s district!)  as a reasonably accurate representation of conservative voters as a whole….you gotta figure this spells major trouble for the GOP  if Trump wins the nomination.    Because the fact is, there simply aren’t that many states where the Republican candidate would have any hope of winning after alienating 20-25% percent of their base.

The fact it's such a small website whose polling likely only lined up with the over 50 crowd also should send huge red flags for Republicans. Trump is simply a toxic brand at this point.

The fact that he's a leading contender is also a warning sign.  Just looking at the OP list it looks pretty dire just given on basics like personality or voting by the most shallow reasons.  You got guys who are boring like hell and Christie is too fat.  And they probably won't nominate Haley because there are still probably a ton of misogynists in the GOP.

Yep, why Repubs throwing hat in ring, knowing if Trump goes down, it's like winning their weak ass division with a 7-9 record.

It’s definitely a dilemma for the GOP.

A significant chunk of their base refuses to cast a vote for Trump….but if the nomination goes to another candidate,   they likely lose the support of tens of millions of MAGA voters who will stay away in droves on Election Day.

Biden and Trump are the only two people that could possibly lose to one another. It's an interesting dichotomy.

The Republicans have underperformed ever since Trump won in 2016. Since the abortion stuff they've really done poorly. On top of this there are a lot of younger people now voting.

It's the Republican policy and Trumpism people are voting against, I don't think Biden matters

It's the fact it's even a possibility. Literally no one else would have a chance to lose against Trump. Biden does. It isn't a shot at him at all. It's an interesting situation.
