This is just the way things are done in the NFL. The nfl cares what citiss make them the most money. San Antonio / St. Louis wouldn't come close because of the used up markets. They gift us a Super Bowl berth for the new stadium ( because it's too common not to be a coincidence) and other Super Bowl hosting and we will be making them a ton of money. They’re constantly hosting super bowls and the next one they host this year is expected to bring in $600M…. I literally couldn’t come up with a more obvious comparison as to why someone would think Nashville is some great bargaining chip to gain leverage on what the NFL alrwady has access to when they can do whatever they want. The big push at the time immediately before the deal was for an arena and a NBA or NHL team, the current venue at the time was totally inadequete for bigger music acts which at that time were playing arenas; the city used a lot of available funding to build that arena; the Oilers/Titans deal kind of fell in their laps, largely because the mayor at the time saw an opportunity and went big with it; the state actually threw in very little money beyond what they had committed to a new TSU stadium and Metro's budget wasn't nearly what it is today in 96/97. They had to build the stadium relatively on the cheap and use a lot of creative financing to pull off the deal; and this was before Jerry's world or any of the other showcase stadiums. Also, almost every city deals with out of towners and the NFL sells a ton of tickets because of it. Would they rather have a loyal fan base? Sure, but there is a reason the new stadium isn't going to have 100,000+ seats. As long as the seats are sold, who sits in it, really isn't their highest priority regardless of what they might say. LA and Vegas, 2 of the new showcase crown jewels sell huge amounts of their tickets to visiting fans, NFL clearly doesn't gaf about that.
