Even though the Titans may not have liked his work ethic or preparation, the scheme change is the biggest reason why he was traded. However, if a scheme change only loses you a young, promising, albeit over-drafted, NT from the previous regime while netting decent edge defender for a year with an inside track to keep him if he returns to his previous performances, it's pretty hard to say the Titans brass got screwed without sounding incredibly nitpicky. Only time will tell, though. begooode, SleepingTitan, IsntLifeFunny, and 5 others

Mainly Titan fans did. I heard PK talk non stop about him needing to be able to rush the passer on 3rd down.... That's not what he was intended to be He was very good at what he was drafted to be. He had work ethic and conditioning problems. NashvilleNinja

To add to this, Sweat had those issues coming into the league and the Titans thought that he could be coached up and out of that mindset, esp with Big Jeff in his ear, too. Sweat had some success and refused to change his approach. So the Titans had real experience to see that Sweat is not a team-guy and where this was likely headed -- poor work ethic and conditioning for +330lbs guys generally plays out poorly longer term, primarily in availability and even play effectiveness, if his head wasn't straight. With this kind of baggage, what could the Titans get for him? A fifth/sixth on draft day, maybe a 2027 fourth? All speculation, but at this point the Titans were making a scheme change as well and did okay; and I'm obviously hopeful that Saleh's guy will do well on his way to getting his next contract. If that’s what they wanted when they drafted him it makes it a terrible draft decision The whole thing with Sweat coming out was that he didn’t even play full nose in college, he had more snaps at 3T. that was the only reason people weren’t going crazy that they drafted a NT so high He was always a 2 down player in the end and they are not near as valuable as an edge rusher who can start for you no matter the salary Justafan, Callidus, and oldschool

You should be able to find a run-stuffing DT in UDFA. It's not a position you spend a 2nd on... especially when teams are offering you nice packages to trade up. Sweat is good for what he offers, but in no way was he worth the pick Carthon spent drafting him even without any trade offers. For a 2nd round pick nose tackle you need more than a really good run defender. You can find those in the 6th round-udfa. We did it 3 times in a row before ran drafted him. oldschool

Oddly enough the tic tac titan guy had a stat on the pass the rush when he was on the field and it was something like only 15% of pressures happened on pass plays where he was on the field even though he played about 35% of them. Not sure where to find the exact quote though. Someone posted it on here months ago. Sweat had a pressure rate of 9% and pass rush win rate of 6.5% which are both ok but nothing special.
