some are purely athletic comparisons. some are total player/draft history comparisons. The point is that the pool of comparisons is overall significantly lower than that of Love's.

Some of these "scouting reports" sound like pure fan fiction.

He's got great hands, but his ability to get open in the NFL is a big question. Defenses never made it a priority to stop him, so he rarely had to do anything which will be required of him in the NFL to succeed.  And his average athletic traits bring into question his ability to separate vs NFL CBs.

I'm curious of what @Mythos27thinks about him.  He correctly pointed out that Harrison Jr. didn't create much separation in college, and that has been the case so far in his career.  Quality low separation possession receivers are as common as small scat backs and slot WRs now.  It really would have helped if he had been eligible for the Sr. Bowl, to see what he looks like 1 on 1 vs. draft-worthy CBs.

Love immediately makes you a more explosive team. He's going to add 10-20 TDs a year through the run and pass game. He's going to upgrade your pass protection. He's going to force teams to account for

The Jaguars gave up what again for Travis Hunter? This notion we should take less capital is kind of mind boggling. If a team wants to move then they need to pay the full price.

Bleacher Report.

COMPARABLE GRADE: Quentin Johnston (8.4 in 2023), Jaxson Smith-Njigba (8.3 in 2023), Jameson Williams (8.4 in 2022)

OVERALL RANK: 11

POSITION RANK: WR2

PRO COMPARISON: DeVonta Smith

Draftbuzz:

He reminds me more of Chris Olave's profile than Garrett Wilson's coming out of Columbus. That is not an insult. That is a very good football player with a long career ahead of him.

Yahoo is the only one that compares him to Williams and Reynolds. Like you said they also do that purely on a size and speed basis, it is not a player comp which makes it relatively useless.

The point is that his comps range from complete shit to ok to pretty dang good vs  Love's pretty dang good to HOF top 5 RB ever. Its a hard argument to try and win.

The historical comps for love start at are Darren Mcfadden, Reggie bush, Todd Gurley, Demarco Murray. Kamara and go to  LTomlinson and Marshall Faulk. The current comps are basically every top back in the league that catches. Bijan, CMC, Cook, Gibbs, Hall..

The BR comps are weird to me too. JSN was a YAC king and completely different physical profile as compared to Tates more big contested katch and deep possession style.

I think Tate is his own type of player and he could be great if some questions are answered with him..I do think hes a great fit for the offense and what we need at the boundaries / deep and he doesnt drop shit.  AJ Green may be a good comp.

Tate is in the 90th+ percentile for PFF in man and zone separation...

But It's PFF and they dont really exist .

Yeah I'm sure if you look at just that, he makes Jeremiah Smith and every other WR look like shit. But you can see by his highlights that a high % of his catches were deep throws against defenses which either didn't bother covering him or had some shitty CB who was flat-footed or stumbling around and let him run by.  This is almost never going to happen in the NFL, especially as a WR1.  Teams will have their best CB up his ass, while having safety help if needed.  You see far fewer breaking/comeback routes where he demonstrates the ability to separate vs defenders.  Maybe he's great at it, but I've seen enough times where CBs have been glued to him while making a concerted effort to stop him that I'm unconvinced (look at the play around 30 seconds where the CB quickly erases all separation )

There is no bad comps for him. You are making shit up based off the fact he is the same size as some random nfl players.

All of his actual comps are good-very good.

The other links you posted yourself compared him to a bunch of top 20wrs including the best wr in the league last year. At least they gave him the same grade as JSN(as a prospect), which takes into account everything.

Watch the every target for tate video again. He runs far more than just deep routes. Its not just pff that put him that high in seperation. He had over 3-3.5 yards per route run against man and zone which is something like 95th percentile in both categories as well. He is always open.

Add in the fact his qb did him no favors leading to him having a 25% cpoe which is as bonkers as his 85% contested catch rate.

Catching up on some of the NFLN Path to the Draft episodes from earlier in the week and Jeremiah mentioned from what he has heard the Cardinals given the choice would take Bailey over Reese.

Now if the Jets take Bailey at #2 will be interesting watching what that means for the Cardinals and whether they would take their second choice EDGE or trade back and let someone else do it.

Another thing from this weeks Path to the Draft episodes they interviewed both Sonny Styles and Arvell Reese and Styles projects himself as a way better communicator and leader than Reese does and there will be some teams that value that a lot even if they end up playing different positions in the NFL.

One of the big surprises of the run up to the draft that I'm not the one here leading the charge to draft a WR at #4.

Usually I'm MR WR's matter too but in the scenario staring down Borgonzi in 11 days time out of the most likely options left on the board I would take Love or Styles over Tate.

That said I still like Tate as a prospect and he would definitely help this team I just think there is likely to be better options available at pick #4.

Iv got my eye on you.

It's a particularly interesting surplus value and replacement production situation this year. Of the three you mentioned, I lean 1) Love, 2) Tate, 3) Styles. I see Love and Styles as being very similar positional values. However, I think Love is a slightly higher caliber player, in addition to there being better ILBs on Day 2 than RBs this year.

Agree that all three would be good additions to the team, including Reese, Bain, Bailey (my ED rankings).

I'm not going to bother arguing the merits of Washington. Don't like him? OK. There's also Price and Johnson.

The bottomline is people are dismissing them out of hand because they refuse to see anyone outside of Love as options. Just a bunch of Justin Gravers in here lately. Do better, ya'll.

The quality of receiver behind Tate in this draft is vastly superior to the quality of RB behind Love. That is a fact. The reciever class is considered to be really deep in this year's draft. Really good players are projected to be there deep into the 3rd round. I also feel like Borgonzi and his scouts are going to prioritize speed. Both Ayo and Dike ran in the 4.3s at last year's combine. I think they are shopping for WRs that run low 4.4s or better, and I for one am great with that philosophy. The Titans have been a slow team for a long time.

His analytics and deeper stats are both great to nuts, and his tape shows him being effortlessly good, but because "nEvEr BeEn A 1" and "rAn A 4.5" he's a pedestrian Tee Higgins 2.0.

I could understand being this skeptical if he played for Grambling State or whatever. But doing this for a team that were a good shot to be back to back national champs against many of the defenders he'll see on Sundays?

I get why some of them love Love but it just looks like they're tearing down a forrest to save a tree.

Yup. I keep telling myself i wont get sucked back into this debate but then i see someone say josh reynolds is 6'3 195 and ran a 4.55 so he is obviously similar makes me a crazy person lol.

The more I watch Sonny Styles I just can’t help myself thinking what kind of player he could become in Saleh’s defense.

Positional value be damned, I really hope it is Love or Styles at 4.
