Thank god. With Brinker, Borgonzi, Zeigler, and Smith, they have all the football people in the room they need to be able to create, compile, and interview the best candidates there are for this job. Why is this even necessary? I'd like to know the coaches places by these firms, and if they've found any candidates beyond the options which are obvious to everyone. I wouldn't expect search firms would provide much benefit other than saving them some administrative legwork reaching out to guys and coordinating interviews. It's not like they're going to uncover some hidden gem they didn't know about. I'm sure they either already know, or will soon know who their primary targets are barring someone unexpectedly becomes available later in the season. Yeah. They are used more often for front office types. Even so a benefit of a search firm even for HCs is the common set of criteria and the way candidates are compared and presented. With established guys like Brinker and Borgonzi on board, there is far less a benefit to use a search firm or outside consultant like you said. Bongo59
They do it for the cash. Incentives dictate their outcomes. corporatizing NFL franchises has been the biggest mistake for goverance in the last 25 yrs. It is good for profit but not outcome and because it drives the profits that is why they keep it in place. You can blame Jerry Jones for this change. We could probably find every single person that's 65 and under that has been a head coach and / or OC in college or pros within a day or two. Brinker said that think their process was correct last time. So that indicates to me an Offensive HC. They also lament the lack of experience and the need to right the ship.. so someone that's been a HC before. List is already getting much smaller. Wait, Brinker said the approach was correct last time? Wow. Yeah fire that motherfucker into the sun. Hand the reins to Borgonzi.

I'm hanging all of my hopes for the future of the franchise on Borgonzi because if we can have a few more drafts like this past one, we'll climb out of the hole almost regardless of what Strunk does or doesn't do. Talent is king. Hearing that Brinker doesn't question their process is a massive red flag to me. I don't care about the politics of it. I don't care what Callahan's qualifications were. To say that out loud after hiring that fucking loser is beyond me. DCTitan, and oldschool 1

It led to hiring a coach who never called plays from an offense that gets its QBs killed and relies on elite talent at the position to function, which obviously resulted in us being the worst team in the NFL in a decade+. It wasn't fine. You are confusing outcome with process. They interviewed all the hot candidates on the market. Callahan had ringing endorsements from coaches and players alike. The team thought it was an acceptable risk to hire a young OFF guy who hadn't called plays and let him grow into the position. They were obviously wrong and Callahan didn't work out, couldn't handle the jump to HC. It happens. That doesn't mean the process is broken. it simply means they chose wrong. Like I said the vast majority of HC hires fail within 2-3 years. Lastly, if you really think they aren't looking into things to tweak during the selection process, you are crazy. The most obvious one is they can't afford to take a chance on another unproven guy and let him learn on the job. Not a great point man. The process was flawed from there. Hired a guy who had never called plays to call plays. Might want to rethink that one! Hired a guy who never once in his career elevated the play of the QB except for a 6 game run with a backup QB. Every QB he worked with prior is a HOFer. Might want to see player progression next time? Hired a soft spoken beta male as an overcorrection. Maybe want to tweak the over correction? That process was likely dog shit and the results speak for themselves.

Depends on who instituted the process. Carthon was the point man and oversaw it. Was he the architect? He probably had quite a bit of say in the process itself. So, no, not really. They're intertwined. If you guys can't see that statement for what it is I.E. "none of this was my fault" I don't know what to tell you.
ctm
Callihan was the first person interviewed. AAS sat in on the interviews. They wouldn't let Callihan leave to interview elsewhere. Good chance this was a consensus decision by the owner and front office. DCTitan, Justafan, OILERMAN, and 1 other
