Titans select WR Chimere Dike at Pick 103

Between the two drafted kids and Restrepo, you hope 1 of them becomes a starter. That would be a draft win. If one is a decent starter and another carves out a solid depth role on offense, that's a massive win.

These are 4th rounders and an undrafted FA...the most realistic hope is that a couple guys are solid ST contributors and back end depth at WR through their first contract.

Bio says he gets a lot of production on crossers, that matches with Ward’s strength passing in the middle of the field

Amateur people online didn't think he should be drafted this early, so I'm upset that professionals thought he should be.

I’m surprised the coaching staff didn’t do a deep dive like you did.

It's also a low cost, low risk strategy while they build the rest of the roster out.  It's the opposite of what the jags did.

The question with Burks is when he'll be ready to participate.  Seemed like he is likely to miss at least some of TC on the PUP.  If healthy, he likely would be the Z opposite Ridley.  I'd assume that would be Jefferson to start at camp unless they want Lockett to be out there when it's 12 or 21 personnel.

It’s actually to see which one of these guys will make the back end of the roster.

Gonna assume that Lockett, Ridley, Jefferson and Burks makes the roster(even if he’s put on PUP to start).

That leaves 2 and at best 3 spots for the  remaining spots .  You have to figure that Dike has the leg up due to ST ability etc.

And that doesn’t even include the option that they might whatever interesting WR might hit the waiver wire.

Is Burks actually in the top 3 though?  He’s coming off an injury and the guaranteed contract is the only thing keeping him rostered.

We’ll probably have another round of Burks looks great in TC/ preseason articles written up.

If he can stay healthy he'll get first crack at nailing down a job. now do I expect it, no because he's basically Mr Glass and I don't think he's any good even when healthy. Point being is the 3 rookie WRs and the rookie TE are at the back of the depth chart and will need to leapfrog others to get into the rotation.

In fairness though, Burks is getting way too much hell for tearing an ACL in practice (it happens).  Yeah he's been a massive disappointment but man has he had some bad injury luck too.

Anything he does is a bonus at this point and very clear the team is not depending on him like in the past.  Given the contract, though, there's no impetus to move on yet.

He has an easier path considering they didn’t draft or sign anybody and his competition is a TE who is mainly a blocker and the other guy is an UDFA , and the other guy is injury prone.

Chimere Dike had 4 drops last year. Calvin Ridley had 8. Yes we know Levis was the QB but it’s not as horrible as folks want to make it seem. We’ll see how it goes.

I do like that Dike is tough through contact. I don’t care that he’s not great at YAC. Securing the catch and coming down with the ball is what’s important. He does still need to improve his catching, particularly with his hands extended from his body, but I’m going to put some of this on Florida and his QB. I think Ward can improve where the ball is placed for him, which can help his YAC.

Obviously they feel there is something with Dike that could be a good fit with Ward. I also think it doesn’t hurt that we have one of the best WR coaches in the NFL.

Yeah, the PFF video clearly states Ayomanor is primarily an X, which we should all know anyway.

Ridley is primarily the Z, even though he plays some X as well. One of the reasons we were able to lure away Ridley from the Jags was he felt misused playing X all the time.

Fans always overreact to players taken after the 3rd round. They are developmental guys period. If one of the WRs or the TE force their way into meaningful snaps that's a great problem to have. Ridley, Lockett, and Burks are the top 3 with Burks clearly being the most exposed. Oliver is likely next man up before the guys drafted a few weeks ago.

lol Burks is closer to being cut than being in the top 3.

Where does Lockett fit in the X,Y,Z scheme of things? If Ridley is the Z, is Lockett the X and Ayo his backup where Lockett goes to Y when Ayo comes in on 3 WR sets? And is Dike more a backup for all 3?

I think Lockett plays X and slot. He played over 70% X last year. I think if Ayomanor does well enough to earn a spot in 11 personnel, then Locket will play slot in those alignments. If it’s a pass out of 12, I think it’ll be Ridley and Lockett. I think Ayomanor will play instead of Lockett when they want Ayomanor’s blocking, and also to manage Lockett’s snap count.

That’s how I see it right now.

I think Dike backs up all 3 but gets selective snaps routinely to get his speed on the field. I think he’s kind of a jack of all trades, master of none, until he develops.

The Coaching staffs don't try to bury Burks on the bench like they did Taywan Taylor.  It seems as if they like him and believe he can contribute, but things couldn't have gone worse than they have in his career.

It is what it is.  If a receiver has talent (which he definitely does), I want to see what they can do with Ward at QB.
