Reagan signed an executive order to give 3 mill illegals amnesty and tried to create a pathway to citizenship for ones already over here.

Before the Republicans went full retard

BTW, they talked about impeaching Obama for signing the same executive order.

That should seriously end a presidency, I'm not kidding   How stupid would you have to be to be a minority, lets just say Asian, and support this racist?

Trump is genuinely an idiot running the country. Like an extremely low IQ individual. Bush was dumb in his ways but this is another level. Fascinating to watch him with even less guard rails

There should be a reasonable path to citizenship but it's also a quite different world now vs Reagan.....

In 1984, there were approximately 2.3 M illegal aliens in the U.S. out of a population of 237 M people (1% of the population) and those here before 1984 were given a path to citizenship in the law you reference.

In 2024, there are estimated to be 14 M illegals in the U.S - 4% of the population.  it is rose 3.8 M or by 28% under "Biden's" open border policy.

You mean after Trump forced the Republicans to vote against their own bill? The strictest border bill ever according to Republicans

He also said it was his biggest regret because he made it with the agreement that Congress would secure the border.  The democrats lied and did no such thing.

You mean after they let the floodgates open, denied there was an issue with the border, and only wanted to deal with it once they knew it was going to lose the election?

This is a mostly false right wing talking point

https://www.cato.org/blog/biden-didnt-cause-border-crisis-part-1-summary

During President Joe Biden’s term, Border Patrol arrested an unprecedented number of immigrants who crossed illegally into the United States. Many believe Biden caused this increase in migration by reducing border enforcement. However, data obtained by the Cato Institute through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) challenges this narrative. In fact, the border crisis began before Biden took office and ended before he left.

From his administration’s first day in January 2021, Biden actually increased border enforcement—arrests, detentions, and removals of border crossers all increased. The prevailing narrative that blames Biden overlooks the real causes of the crisis: America’s robust labor market and bad immigration policies that incentivized illegal entries. However, Trump, not Biden, mostly started those policies. Biden eventually phased out some of them; he increased legal migration, and as the labor market cooled, the problem dissipated.

*Illegal immigration had already increased to a 21-year high before Biden entered office.

Aside from a destruction of the country that makes immigrants simply not want to come to America (AKA the current plan), the only solution is a bill passed by Congress to change immigration law.

Biden and Dems tried to do that but Republicans refused to do anything because they preferred to win political points than actually change the law to improve things.

When Trump was inaugurated in 2017, most of the US/Mexican border was incredibly difficult and hostile terrain.   In the areas where the border was unprotected…upon crossing the border,  illegals would have to run a gauntlet across miles and miles of empty desert before reaching any sort of civilization,

When Trump started building his big beautiful wall to stop the illegals, there was no way to get workers and construction materials to these remote areas ….so they built makeshift construction roads through the desert to get things back and forth to the border.

Makes sense, right?

Here’s the thing:  with hundreds of miles of  new construction roads, all the migrants, drug dealers, and human traffickers now had a direct and relatively quick and easy path between the border and American towns and cities.

So instead of migrants and drug mules crossing the border and spending 2-4 days trekking through barren desert …now the drug dealers and human traffickers have cars and trucks waiting at the border to pick up their cargo and have it delivered within hours.

And surprisingly enough….with the logistics suddenly much easier, the number of illegal migrants and illegal drugs quickly exploded.   All of which was made possible by Trump’s wall construction roads.

(I’m pretty sure Fox News and Heritage.org probably forgot to mention this part to their viewers and readers).

Just another example of Trump’s short-sighted and poorly-conceived decisions having  the exact opposite effect of what he intended.

The thing is, intentions are everything to MAGA. Results are almost entirely irrelevant.

Bait and Switch

Who makes the most money off 'illegals'?  The money is supporting the current policies.  Kid Rock closed his doors because he didn't want to lose his cheap labor.  The "illegals" working for him.  They do the jobs we can't afford to live on.  All the big retailers have employees working just under the hours where automatic benefits kick in.

ICE!  140,000 deportations. 15,800,000 illegals in the USA according to Pew.  This shows a larger impact in the news than reality.  The rich need low wage workers.  We(us) aren't willing to pay one another a fair wage for their work.  We don't want to pay for these workers to live a low middy lifestyle.  So, we walk into the same ditch over and over.  We fight each other over the crumbs.

DOGE 280,000 were laid off.  Will that effect the economy?  Who benefits?  Tax cuts for the R.  Somehow, we fight each other.  In the 1980's, we made the bucks.  Ronald Reagan cut taxes.  Reagan also eliminated the government run programs for the mentally challenged.  Small cities surrounding big cities picked the newly homeless up, gave them good meals, took them to the city and dropped them off.

We keep fighting.
