My theory is the technique route  for Latham(and the entire line for that matter)that Papa Calli was teaching sure as hell isn't working for run blocking..how can we not have a better run game?  Is there some tell or giveaway that these defenses can read?

The left side of the OL could be dominant

You guys remember when we took the most pro-ready offensive lineman from Alabama with a HOF o-line coach on the staff in 2013?   That was fun.

That is a horrible message to send to the fan base that your top 10 pick may fail at the position you hope he plays.

The blocking scheme was to complicated. Everything had multiple moving parts and these guys are almost a whole new group once you take into account the chush injury last year and latham switching sides.

I cant remeber which podcast they were talking about it on, i think it was that new show thats on ticktak titans youtube channel, but its some other dude and brad hopkins. And they were saying its why they always either get 15 yarda or nothing. Because when its perfectly blocked it great but sp much can go wrong that most of the time you end up with nothing or next to it.

I never liked drafting Latham and I dont think it was the right or smart choice at the time. Just because there are things you are "supposed to do" does not mean that is the right decision.

He was an unsure fit at LT (or even OT in general) and wasn't separating himself from the other OL guys enough (or at all) to be drafted that high. There was a pack of players that extended to the 3rd round that he fit into. There were great CBs, WRs, DJared Verse, Brock Bowers, or Trade back -  that all were obviously significantly better options.

Many here said at the time go BPA but the loudest here spat the idea that a pick at OT was correct even though he didnt look like a player deserving of that spot on film.  It was the most forced pick. So forced that on the draft day party in the stadium there was an audible "huh?" and groans.

All that said, we did him no favors. You dont swap a guy to one of the hardest positions to play in sports and start him day 1 as a rookie. You also dont swap him the next year and make him start all over again.

IIRC there was several old head OTs on the market up to like week 4-5 that were still good enough players to start and we didnt chase any of them until it was too late. Those guys should have been signed and at the least in the film room and drills at camp helping the new guy get adjusted. You start them until the rookie starts figuring it out.

We do like we always do as a franchise. We are confidence destroyers for players rather than builders because we dont know how to groom and dont have the patience to do so.

Horrible pick. But he can still turn it around.

Im listening to the AtoZ show and they are trying to defend latham, they haven't put forth any evidence yet, just talked shit about fans who think he sucks. Reading tweets and stuff.

Ironically they said ramon foster who was a tackle in college and moved to guard in the nfl said latham's tape in college looked like a guard to him.

How about Alabama defensive linemen? Just asking in case we get the notion to draft LT Overton.

I think they have a better track record than their OL but it's not their best product. Alabama running backs and receivers are what you want to draft.

Ok so their evidence for him not sucking was the texans game where he didnt give up a presure to their big time duo and he only had help blocking on 50% of his snaps. They mentioned the penalties but said as soon as he got past the snap he was great.

They also mentioned he has given up 8 sacks in 7.5 games which is apparently fine.

The6 mentioned his injury and compared it to Skoronski with the appendectomy.

Then they asked everyone if he was a top 3, 5 or 10 problem. And when evrryone didnt say top 3 or 5 they declared it a win.

Easton gave him a B grade for the season.

I was going to say, if we couldn't get Smith next year Ryan Williams could be a really good consolation prize.

Williams has been somewhat disappointing this year.

Iv changed my mind, the media guys are right and latham is fine and the fans including myself are just overreacting.

He's missed almost exactly half the season so far. Double those stats and it looks a shit ton worse.

I was being sarcastic. He only missed 4(5?) games so hes played 60-66% of games but we also dont have alot of offensive snaps because the offense sucks in general.

He has less pass blocking snaps than 50 other guys who have played tackle this year. And he is still 69th out of 80 in penalties, 31st out of 80 in hurries and 72nd out of 80 in sacks.

Its remarkable people are defending this garbage.  Its actually worse than I thought and I have been pretty critical of him.
