It's all good European fam. This type of situation leads to arguing which devolves into bickering. Breaking news about atrocities is hard to keep up with in real time because of the amount of disparate sources. Anyone challenging your credibility is merely arguing a stance that yes through this thread you have been very anti-israel. That doesn't mean you're pro-Hamas however, so I would say you and those questioning you could do a better job of being clear about what you're both positing.

I don’t think anything you said is unfair, but I think reo can do a better job at taking those posts today at face value

I probably need to read the room a bit more, you’re right, I’m very anti-IDF and Netanyahu, but I need to make it clear to any Jewish people that there’s absolutely no offence intended and I could really understand if I’m rubbing them in particular the wrong way

Hell yeah! John Calvin & friends never burned "heretics" at the stake. Protestants never burned "witches". All the bad stuff was the Catholics fault! That's the ticket!

There's simply no defense for what has taken place. This wasn't a military encounter; this was terrorism plain and simple. There's a huge difference. It's unjustifiable and has setback peace for decad

The 6 billion was Iranian money from prior oil sales and held in South Korea.   In addition, it wasn't turned over directly to Iran.  The money is to be used for humanitarian purposes and pa

Boy, thats a mouthful. Propaganda is responsible for all the reasons people dislike him? Broker deals? Spiral out of control? We have war or tensions all over the place. Do you think how we left Afghanistan or his overtures to Iran are totally irrelevant to what id happening now?

Yes, propaganda is a huge reason people don't like Biden.

I've made my thoughts clear on his dealings with Iran and have taken shit for those thoughts.

War in Ukraine has been handled deftly by Biden and the Administration. I think they've also handled this situation quite well.

As for Afhanistan, that's completely off-topic, but yes the deal was signed under and pushed for by Trump through Pompeo, completely neutering the Afghan Government we had propped up for 20 years. Get your facts straight and add to the discussion.

This day in age journalism is dead. The profit structure for clickbait is so prevalent that without it each news source dies a slow death at the hands of others who are willing to throw shit at the wall for viewers. It's sad to watch and it isn't going to change anytime soon.

The NYT should  know better. They need to release a statement saying they got it wrong.

This thread is a disaster. A lot of reason, nuance and consideration--sure.

Also a lot of Spider-man meme esque-pointing and arguing about propaganda and how well others are rhetorically analyzing twitter.

This is a complex cultural, historical, and ideological conflict being played out with horrific immediacy--to the backdrop of prolonged and ugly treatment of a group of people along with another group that suffered one of the worst instances of human criminality in existence in the Holocaust, with every other geopolitical power throwing their own baggage into the mix. Of course it is hard to discuss. And because Americans have played the hero in their narratives of these stories and our relationship to Israel compared to others, it is easy for us to speak as if we have the moral high ground. We certainly do not.

I'd hope folks can cool talking about this as if it fit into our normal patterns "winning" vs your opponent "taking the L". Everyone in this thread is applying more scepticism to the materials from the sources you are not sympathetic towards. That's human. I also think most of us are capable of why people are distrustful and feel strongly from every angle of this.

I think in all of this there are things we can control, and right now it's most important to be watchful of our own government's behavior. I think Biden is handling it pretty damn well considering the chilling alternative that Trump could be in power. I am also no longer going to buy into the Biden's optics narrative--if you are shallow enough to fixate on some of these things instead of the work he is doing and the outcomes he is securing, more power to you--I'll save the election stuff for another thread.

We're also seeing anti-semitism in this country as well as discrimination and antagonism of Palestinian Americans and other people from the Middle East. We cannot tolerate any of this and have to fight hard to protect our fellow citizens. We can all learn more, do better, and hold ourselves to a high standard of discourse around this.

Lmao I’m not gonna get into with you. Hamas is a proped up entity of Israel used by the Israelis as a means to alienate Gaza and the West Bank, think I’m making this shit up? Go read into bibi’s way of thinking and what he’s said on record. I’m done posting here I’m gonna get labeled an anti-Semite.. that’s the typical rebuttal to anyone questioning Israel.  They’ve literally made laws in the US where it’s against the law to question anythinf Israel does… go look into it.

This is conspiracy theory bullshit Stan…

Hamas is literally the ruling entity in Gaza. They aren’t just a terrorist organization. They are literally the government. And they aren’t backed by Israel, they are backed by Iran (and other anti-Israeli nations/groups).

It's a damn long way to election day and I, personally, think the mental and physical decline we should expect if re-elected is pretty severe. I'd actually give decent odds of him dying in office.

But, sure, given the choice between those two, there is no choice. Better a man who will die than a man looking to kill democracy itself.

Certainly not when the person replacing Biden is a verifiable idiot.

Wont hold my breath. They were wrong about so many things that they still refuse to admit. Pulitzer price my ass.
