I certainly could see him (or someone) getting in late if no one in the current group of challengers is able to gain any traction. But honestly the party is in the tank for Trump and it could be bad for his future to challenge Trump.

agree. Leaning on Tim Miller’s recent comments, these types of things are driven by the big donor class throwing their money at opportunistic advisors ($$), not the rank and file repub primary voters who love trump and his crazy cruelty.

Also I’m speculating that this allows gop elite to feel better about themselves when ultimately they go along with Trump: ‘we did everything we could…’

It's really obvious the big donors hate the idea of Trump. They've known he was a loser from day one. They've hated him since day one. It's their fault we are in this position as much as anyone else.

Republicans had a genuine opportunity to wipe the slate clean to a large degree after January 6th. They would have had to take their medicine for an election cycle, but they could have done it and stayed a sane party. They went the opposite route and are now filled with vile idiots who consider the government and anyone who opposes them an enemy. They consider Civil War a legit option.

Repubs can legitimately do whatever they want without consequences as their core supporters rarely will hear critical or negative coverage within their infotainment bubble. And with polarization now effectively embedded through non competitive gerrymandered voting districts, these disconnects will likely become worse. Our incentive structures in politics are ass.

Trump is just begging his crowds to become violent on his behalf with his victimhood vitriol finding new lows. Repubs of leadership have to own this mess. His followers who pretend they stand for decency (“I’m not really political, don’t keep up, repubs are always best for the economy, right?”), have to own this mess.

Sophomoric, yeah, but it’s just weird to see how much inane troll culture fuels Trump’s campaign, beginning with the orange idiot himself. And calling Haley “birdbrained” when there are other, real flaws to attack — again just seems like a stupid and awkward way to treat someone who carried a lot of water for Trump.

... A super PAC supporting Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has begun polling his support as an Independent, one of the strongest indications to date that the long-shot Democrat is set to announce a party affiliation switch.

The poll, conducted by the firm John Zogby Strategies and commissioned by the American Values 2024 PAC, comes amid growing speculation — fueled by Kennedy himself — that he will leave the Democratic Party in the upcoming weeks. But what the PAC found in its survey may be as notable as the tea leaves around a switch itself: Kennedy, as an Independent, would pull more support away from Republican Donald Trump than Democrat Joe Biden, according to the findings.

All told, the poll shows that in a general election between Trump, Biden and a generic “independent candidate,” the result is Trump at 40 percent, Bident at 38 percent and the independent candidate at 17 percent. In a matchup between Trump, Biden and “Robert F. Kennedy Jr.” as the independent candidate, the result is Trump and Bide tied at 38 percent with Kennedy at 19 percent. The survey did not include Green Party candidate Cornel West...
