What do you feel about building the new stadium on the beach, either Gulf or Atlantic side.

Probably not as big. Memphis declined for other reasons but I'm sure losing out on an NFL team didn't help. 

But I think we've likely spent the most of any city in the last 25 years on NFL stadiums. 500 million for the first one and now 750 million for the second one. If you're going to build a stadium do it fucking right the first time and write an advantageous deal for you that avoids building a new stadium in 20 years.

I rooted for them when they were the Houston Oilers as well.  But you clearly wanted this thing to fail.  Which would not be a good thing for the franchise.

I wanted them to get a new stadium on their terms.  Regardless of where it was.  If Nashville would have fucked up the deal (and they tried), another city would have stepped up.  The team would have been absolutely fine regardless.

Of course it would be funny if the city messed something up trying to strong arm the NFL to squeeze millions out of them.

And you could say the exact opposite also on it being beneficial for a team in the long term, a city willing to go all out for a new stadium compared to negotiating with a city trying to take money out of the NFL and franchise's pockets is worse for the franchise than the inconvenience of playing in a new city.

 

I highly doubt the Rams got caught up in the distraction that is moving to a new city and hurt the franchise long term.

And you could say the exact opposite also on it being beneficial for a team in the long term, a city willing to go all out for a new stadium compared to negotiating with a city trying to take money out of the NFL and franchise's pockets is worse for the franchise than the inconvenience of playing in a new city.

 

I highly doubt the Rams got caught up in the distraction that is moving to a new city and hurt the franchise long term.

It hurt them in their last few years in St. Louis.

 

Being a lame duck team is not a good thing.  Long-term stability is.

I said it would be funny and of course it would have been.  The city never wins this stuff ever.  If they want to be pious about it, the team leaves.  

 

The idea the NFL wanted/needed Nashville as a market was always an hysterical angle by the yahoos on here.

That's part of it.  But you're better off if you're not playing in a city for three years when you know you're likely going to leave.  I feel like you're arguing just to argue.  I'm just glad it got worked out.
