Let's make the Titans pick @29.  If this gets legs, I will put a poll into the thread for votes.  Guessing a trade is fine, as long as you are correct in who the team trades with AND who they take with the first pick from the trade.  

 

In 2008, we flat out nailed Chris Johnson as the Titans 1st round pick.  CJ wasn't even expected to go that early in the draft, iirc.  This year the Titans are a good team again and are picking later in the draft. My selection was months before Conklin was signed.  Took it off.

I think they've emphasized over and over again they think Kelly can get it done. They have already signed his backup. I think we're going somewhere else in round one. 

 

DB is where I am currently leaning. If we sign Clowney but don't bring back Ryan it makes too much sense.

40-Yard Dash: 4.65 seconds (tied for 13th of 30 linebackers who performed drill)

Bench Press: 24 reps of 225 pounds (third of 27 linebackers who performed drill)

Vertical Jump: 32.5" (tied for 19th of 31 linebackers who performed drilled)

Broad Jump: 115" (27th of 31 linebackers who performed drill)

3-Cone Drill: 7.00 seconds (tied for fifth of 18 linebackers who performed drill)

Player Summary - Zack Baun will excel in a defensive system that capitalizes on his versatility and football IQ to place him in various roles in the defensive front seven. Baun has the quickness, burst and hand usage to win as a pressure player but early downs will serve him best working off the football to take advantage of his quick processor and short area quickness to step into gaps and fill versus the run. He can be a critical starter for a defense but needs to be moved around to play his best football.

I was watching some Ohio State just because I think it is more likely that Ohio State guys are picked ahead of other colleges because of the connections, and Damon Arnette really stood out.

 

He played press man a lot but moved inside and was just as good. He looks like a good athlete. I read up a bit more on him and apparently he was inconsistent in 2017 and 18.. In 19, though, he allowed only 45% of the balls thrown his way to get caught. He may have some character concerns but I'm sure Vrabel will know to what extent those are true.

I think he's a contender for the Titans first pick, especially if they trade down

”Davidson has average height and a thick/square build. He typically lined up at defensive end for the Tigers, but also possesses the ability to slide inside. As a pass rusher, he is devastating when he has a runway. He generates a lot of power in his bull rush and has an array of hand moves he can incorporate on the move. He doesn't have an elite get-off, but he wins in the ways just mentioned. He destroys tight ends with his strength and power combination. Against the run, he uses his length to stack blocks, and his effort to pursue is outstanding. Overall, Davidson has some inside/outside flexibility and his production should carry over to the next level.”

“Hand Technique/Length - Dude has sledgehammers for hands. He's got a ton of power and routinely resets the LOS or collapses rush angles if he's able to place a heavy blow on blockers. His shedding techniques improved and hand fighting urgency was better in 2019 than in previous seasons, too. 

 

Competitive Toughness - Urgent player that, if sensing soft spaces to run to at the POA, is going to press for penetration. He's got a super dense frame and carries his weight well, allowing him to anchor even when he's given up his chest and lost his desired fit. Short area explosiveness earns him a lot of clean wins early on. 

Two Gap Ability - Stack and shed skills are going to be a work in progress, especially considering he's just now having the light come on for separation skills and winning contain as an end man on the LOS. Wouldn't task him with playing the nose in any situation but he's got enough upside that he may play 4i effectively down the road. 

Gap Penetration Skills - First step quickness is impressive for his stature. He's taken edges as a rusher (Florida/ Georgia) this past year and covers significant space, he's effective in coiling up and driving up the field. That will be further amplified with a more regular role in the B-gap on the early downs, too. 

 

Tackling - Some surprising body contortion skills at his disposal to lengthen himself and attack the QB in the pocket. He's got needed mobility for a big man to shade and then envelope ball carriers if they try to press his gap and bounce out of his grasp. Violent finisher on stationary targets. 

 

Flexibility - Don't think he's got ideal bend or twist to play off the edge like he did in college but his ability to drop the inside shoulder and coil in stance put him in a position to win versus guards as well. He's illustrated effective tight corners with his hips in 2019 and turned it tight, without looping too far out of his rush lane. 

 

Pass Rush Counters - High success with cross chop, long arm and speed to power. His bull rush against ZBS guards has the potential to be devastating given his hand power and first step quickness. Should be able to collapse the pocket cleanly. His deliberate counters outside of first contact are still a touch slow to engage. 

 

First Step Quickness - Springy athlete with a surprising amount of burst. He's got stereotypical juice for a 3T penetration defender and will shoot across the LOS quickly. Question will be how consistently he can keep his balance through lateral contact as he shoots gaps from the interior vs. prior role as an outside DL. 

 

Feet/COD - Redirection skills aren't really where he's going to shine. He's got a lot of momentum to reel in and he doesn't always do so in a timely manner when he's forced to come off his initial path. Plant and drive to open into the boundary isn't ideal and he'll fall off the pace if he's tasked with turning on sharp angles.

 

Versatility - Credit where it is due — he did a lot and lined up in a lot of places for Auburn. Don't think he's going to offer the same ceiling in similar roles and usage and he's best off focusing on specialization of his strengths instead of tackling a slew of responsibilities.

Summary - Marlon Davidson spent some time on the edge at Auburn but his best NFL projection casts him inside as a 3T penetration defender. Davidson is at his best when he's in attack mode and can use his first step quickness to press into gaps. Davidson's block shedding skills are pointed upwards and acclimating to the close quarters combat of an inside role is now a much more realistic proposition. Look for Davidson to enter the NFL as a developmental starter and pass rush specialist early on.”

There are character concerns that come with Arnette would be a major surprise if he is a first round pick for anyone in this draft. Daniel Jeremiah two days ago dumped him completely out of his top 50 big board, Dane Brugler and Matt Miller have also highlighted the character concerns.

I mentioned them but I saw a couple of reports that said they were overblown and not an issue in 2019. Vrabel and Kerry Coombs will know about them. I have seen him mocked in the first round plenty
