Not sure how old you are, but back in the day there was an expression about not discussing politics or religion at the dinner table. Seemed to be a focus around Thanksgiving. Intelligence has been abandoned when these topics come up for a long time. And now we have the internet in which Uncle Jeb shouts his opinion constantly.
