Republicans planning on ramming healthcare bill through without hearings

The Senate Republicans are writing a healthcare bill in secrecy and planning to throw it out and vote on it without releasing it to the public or giving the public a chance to see or any hearings.

The Republican House version has a 17% approval rating. The CBO shredded it. The Republicans know they can't release the bill without getting pummeled.

It's possible they know it won't pass and are just doing this so they can say they tried and just move on.

It would almost be funny if it passed

Losing health care is real, proven by the town halls. There will be aftermath

Neither have most Republicans!

I saw that basically 12 Republicans know what the bill really is.

They are not just hiding it from the Dems and public but also from Republicans who might not want to vote for it for fear of losing their seat

So irresponsible. The GOP is in total disarray. If they pass something that that knocks 20 million people off Obamacare and raises health care costs for baby boomers (over 60) it's going to bite them in the ass down the road. Meanwhile our president and "his team" is busy "lawyering up".

Most of the elderly are already Democrat or Republican, and will remain as such.  It's easy enough for Republicans to tell them it is the fault of Obamacare for their increased rates and they'll believe it.  There is no loss for the GOP here.

The rest is middle class insurance rates vs the poor having some form of insurance.  Middle class insurance rates will come down a bit, because their plan will suck.  The majority will be singing the praises.....right up until the moment they or a family member become really sick.  My mom was a prime example.  She paid for health insurance for 25 years.  Same company.  When she got cancer her oncologist told her to drop the insurance company as they wasn't even covering her monthly payment and go ahead and get on TennCare.  Enriched the insurance company while ultimately flipping the big bill to the tax payer.

That's the system the GOP wants to return and many will be cheering because they don't understand the product they are buying is a rip off.

The poor didn't really vote for them anyways, so they only stand to gain from the middle class.

They are only gambling that the cheaper rates for cheap plans out weigh the idea of people can't be cancelled or denied care for pre-existing conditions.  Deep down, everyone knows insurance companies do NOT have their best interests at heart and is exactly why the pre-existing condition portion of the ACA was extremely popular.  It'll be interesting to see if our "have now, pay later" credit hungry society is okay with cheaper insurance now and deal with the negatives later, or if they actually still have a thought of long term security regarding their health.

Time will tell, but it's easy to see the game the GOP is willing to play.

But almost certainly not to the extent to flip the house.

Exactly.  Since by doing so so shortly after the election is more or less forcing GOP voters to look in the mirror and admit they were wrong (as an emotional factor). Won't happen.  Likely Dems pick up a few seats here and there but not enough to make any noise during house roll call. It will be spun by the left as the start of a movement but the only real movement will be their wheels spinning in the mud.

Ironic to me that the majority of voters wanted a watershed moment this past presidential election, represented by Trump or Sanders in related yet dichotomous fashion.  Certainly that was the predominant theme vs business as usual which was represented by Clinton.  Not a terrible sentiment in and of itself, but the downside was that an even greater % of on the fence voters ended up falling to one side or the other, exacerbating the already immutable dysfunction of Congress.

Best hope going forward is that Trump and this Congress push so many so hard that they on both sides become willing to meet in the middle to get something done.  Reactionary centrism.
