I don't think any coach is teaching their guy to do that type of rollout, but Dart is quite a bit better athlete than Ward. It's why guys like Lamar and Murray get away with that move because of their ability to do that blind spin and accelerate away. Dart isn't that kind of athlete but is a plus one. 

 

Allen used to do it a lot and could get away with it for the same reason but doesn't do it nearly as much now. The whole to move up is in between the space left against a four man front where the 7/8/9 tech and 3 tech are, which is usually, but not as often as it used to be on QBs blind side, so for Ward it'll usually be up and scramble to the left. The hole opens on the right as well though. That's really the whole game for QBs unless they're freak athletes. 

 

I've watched a ton of Patrick Mahomes games. He rarely if ever does the turn the shoulder spin trying to erase the outside rusher unless all hell has broken loose up the middle and it's a must have play. He's either dirting it, throwing OB towards a WR, or hitting a hot route if it's a blitz. 

 

I'll say this: I said to the board the day we got the #1 pick we were taking Ward. He has an inmate skill set you don't see in many QBs and a tenacity to match it. If he can't get down the fact that rollout move only works if the defense believes you'll step up into the pocket, so it becomes your feint move to a degree, then it becomes terminal. He has to figure that out. I'm not basing that on PS1. I'm basing that off of his time at Miami and last year to go along with he's still doing it in bad situations. That kind of play is a game wrecker for zero reason on a first down deep shot play. Step into the pocket and take the sack if you have to.

What I did notice was how open those RPOs will be for a guy like Ward with his quick release. Just have to get the timing down, but they should be a staple of the offense with the team telling Ward to run and immediately slide if the first WR option isn't open and he didn't choose the handoff.

He's aiming that at me, when really I was laughing at the Tanny stans saying after we drafted Levis and didn't extend Tannehill that it was anyone but Levis' team. Then I gloated and said the team would treat him like a franchise QB and give him at least two years if not for injuries but at least one year without competition. It's okay he wants to take shots after being that wrong about Tannehill getting outright benched, cut, and then never played another snap of football.

Good stuff in here, imo, and worth the 15min listen. TLDR: Titans were running relatively simple offense, Ward made reasonably good reads, but missed some easy throws. Overall, Camarona was encouraging. On to the next preseason game.

Tennessee quarterback Cam Ward struggled mightily in Thursday night’s preseason opener against the San Francisco 49ers.

Even the most zealous Titans Kool-Aid guzzler would have to admit it was an ugly first game for the second-year signal-caller and 2025 No. 1 overall pick.

Ward was scattershot for much of his three drives, going 5-of-12 passing for 57 yards against Niners backups. The big-armed quarterback repeatedly missed his targets, particularly on slants and over the middle, putting the pigskin just out of reach of open receivers. Few reps in the pocket looked comfortable for the QB, and on the occasions he tried to make things happen outside of structure, Ward nearly turned it over.

#9 said  'It wasn’t that Ward missed throws. That happens with every quarterback. It was that he botched what should have been layups. A starting QB can’t miss a slant by a yard when his WR has gotten open with ease.'

Might need to shout out WanDale a bit more, too.  Going against the 2s in PSG1, noted, but the guy showed good speed, good hands and toughness -- especially with the block on the opening run where he pancaked the LB so bad the 49er announcer thought he was going to catch a holding penalty.

There are still some big levis fans out there-   You see them pop up in facebook or youtube comments whenever cam struggles.

This is a much better angle than the TV broadcast. What's very impressive was Carmona's finish with run blocking -- dude is looking to put his guy into the turf consistently. Again, these are the 2s he was going against, but his physicality shows up for sure.
