You have to be extremely explosive consistently and Love was... but he doesnt look built for the league. He needs another 10-15 lbs at his height. 

Bingo. The RB in the passing game is massively overstated as it relates to production. I suspect it's because having a great receiving back really does present you with a lot of options offensively and it gives opposing defenses something else to worry about. At least that's the rationale on paper. In practice, from what I've observed, very few teams actually use their RB in such a way that it justifies taking one so high. McCaffrey is the only example I can think of where a RB was taken extremely high because of his dual-threat ability and then he actually lived up to the hype + the team actually used him appropriately. Him and his situation are extremely rare. More often than not these teams draft these dual threat RBs only to at most toss them 2 or 3 swing passes/ check downs per game.

 Considering how well the 5th round guard looks that might end up a good move too

I really wish mello didn't kinda give it away. You could tell graver was trying to prepare once he told him the pick was in.

 

If they were talking about something else and he got caught completely off guard without knowing the pick was in we may have seen tears lol

With the speed James Williams seems to be coming on you could also think in hindsight should they traded up for Anthony Hill Jr and this is coming from someone who was a fan of the move at the time.

 

Can't remember if it was PK or Gall who mentioned it but they suggested that Williams could replace Gray on some passing downs once the regular season rolls around.

Barton is probably the worst starter on the team. Williams doesn't play the same position.

It makes sense though doesn't it? They took 3 players in the top 60 of a supposedly weak draft. They thought they had to move up to get the talent they wanted and they did.  
 

Seems like they identified some guys at various pos of need.  I bet Stribling was one if somehow Bailey fell to us and Rutledge was gone.

Chasing a nasty bulldozing G and ending up with a big long run stuffing EDGE are vastly different team building blocks.

Mccaffrey was the one I was thinking about from this clip: 

 

 

 

watch to the end. Mccaffrey was behind Parker Washington.. so not as bad as I was thinking  but Nate tice says "The best recievong RBs are worth a solid TE or 3rd WR - at BEST"

 

As of use case... yes. They OCs are enthralled with ability but use them all the same most of the time. That's why Henry, even with his drops, is worth it to keep on the field above pass catching RBs on his teams,  Because 1 in 10 go for bigger gains.

Faulk had a high floor and looks good moving inside to rush, he's also young.  I agree he's not an ideal 1st round wide 9. But we needed bodies. From a talent and positional value perspective they likely saw the board had a huge drop off and felt they needed to chase their biggest needs early.

 

We likely didn't see another G we liked after Rutledge that early and had already put the groundwork in for trades, there was a DE run, and we chased talent in a weak draft. 
 

what was your preference?
