For a lot of people it's about the thrill of having ice water dumped on you, like going on a ride at a park or whatever. I don't doubt a lot of people are sincere in doing it and maybe it inspires some to break out the wallet but most of the ones who would be doing that have probably already done it. We used to do the polar plunge every year. But we had to pay to do it and the money went to the cause. These ALS vids are actually providing income for some of these famous people getting water dumped on them via likes and views. Cut a check dorks! So either your donated or you raised awareness plus you challenged the next person which could lead to more donations, you had to respond in 24 hours. And many people would do both the ice plunge and give money.
