I understand fans like Dike and he gave us the most explosive plays as a playmaking threat but yes Ayo is a more complete receiver oldschool, and OILERMAN

You can say he was "forced" but the truth is he was the 2nd best receiver on the team and that was understood very early into camp. You guys arent being realistic in your assessment. Ayomaner sucked, plain and simple, no way around it. He shouldn't have been close to the football field. If we didnt spent a 4th round pick on him and no had literally no option at X he would not have played. He caught under half of his targets. That is mind numbing pitiful. I didn't want van jefferson anywhere near the team but thw truth is he was a clealy superior player without question.
titansfan
I dont think you all realize that outside of Ward, Zeitler, Sko and Latham, nobody logged more snaps than Ayomanor. Hes trusted by the team. Us getting Tate isnt an indictment against him, its against really the whole room. He as a 4th round rookie was immediately trusted in the WR1 which is a responsibility that id argue was a little much too early (or really any rookie WR). The idea he now goes to the bottom of the roster is nuts DCTitan
headhunter
Ayo is fine at the 4 and 5th spot. You can't have him starting like last year unless he made huge improvements titanruss, Callidus, and IsntLifeFunny

The idea he now goes to the bottom of the roster is nuts You couldn't trust him to be within 10 yarda of the ball let alone catch it.... He saw the field for 1 reason and 1 reason alone. He was a young draft pick with some ability to beat press. Thats it, nothing more, nothing less. I have/had no problem with that, in fact if you go back to last year I said as much. But if you were a coach seriously trying to win games by the 3rd or 4th game you knew he wasn't going to help you win. I DONT THINK YOU understand how bad he was. Your average nfl starter catches 60-65% of their targets depending on useage. Van was at a piss poor 56%, elic was at 46%. Go find wrs getting meaningfull snaps with sub 50% catch rates. Ill wait. titansfan
I think you should reserve any declarative statements until hes in his 2nd season. As far as rookie receivers go, hes had a good start to his career. Depending on the expectations you had/have for him, I really dont know how anyone comes away with a less than par assessment of him. Its a ridiculous standard many of you have that you have never really seen... God forbid Tate has a slow start adjusting to NFL speed Justafan
ctm
The most declarative statement in this thread is that Ayo will directly compete with Ridley for snaps. Justafan, and oldschool

If Ridley misses time its dike who will eat his snaps. Never forget titansfan said auomnaor was an all pro after a few games last year. Hes committed to the bit at this point. XAEA12
Saying Dike over Ayomanor because one had a 40 percent catch rate compared to 43 percent is splitting hairs. And look at Ridley at 39 percent, yuck! The bigger concern is are they all this terrible, or was the issue the QB? If it is the QB we are screwed either way. If it's the WRS let's pray Wandale is our savior and Tate grows up fast bc as far as the WRs I think you're splitting hairs when the numbers are not good for any of them. XAEA12
Just checked. Wandale's success rate last year was 43 percent. Justafan, and Supernope 1
cenj
Ayomanor was thrust too early into a starting role last year. After a full year of NFL experience and strength training, the team decided to spend the #4 overall pick on a permanent replacement for Ayo. If that doesn't tell you anything, I don't know what to say. Ayomanor will never be the X here unless injury forces him in the role. He's going to be a backup fighting against both Wandale and Dike for reps at the Z. If Dike doesn't become a viable Z, then they will probably just use Wandale outside and keep Dike as the slot. Oh, did we mention the fact that Ridley is the likely starter at Z? I assume he'll be injured and/or need rest, but he'll have to be unseated first. So to summarize: Tate is forever the starting X. Ridley is likely the starting Z. Wandale is starting in the slot and is likely to take some reps outside too. Dike is definitely the better slot WR, so if he doesn't overtake Ridley, he'll mostly be getting reps spelling Ridley or moving to the slot while Wandale goes outside. So Ayo is Tate's backup, unless he beats out Ridley, Wandale, and Dike to start (lol!). Edited May 1 by cenj Wrong terminology
NashvilleNinja
Look, no one needs to be hanging their hat on anything from last year. Ayomanor looked bad and he also had moments of looking good. Pretty much everyone else did too. It's perfectly reasonable to both give these guys mulligans while at the same time recognizing that there needs to be massive improvement. Ayomanor has tools to work with and he's got a good WR coach to help him maybe unlock them. But they drafted Tate to put him in as the immediate X because Ayo just isn't that good. It's he nearly dropped to the 5th round last year.

I don't know why they decided to name them that way. Probably just to confuse people. cenj
