That said, guys who make it tend to be surprises out of left field. No one was particularly high on guys like Drew Bennett, Aaron Brewer, or Teair Tart. A big program guy is pretty well known and isn’t likely to surprise anyone. It’s that player from a tiny school or a guy who changed positions who tends to come out of nowhere.

Ooh.  Interesting .  I’ll guess Shad Banks ILB UTSA.

Did a quick walkthrough of his highlight video.  Plays fast and violent .  Also talented enough to do kick return duty at some point in his career.  Ran a 4.4 .  Showed decent skills in coverage as well.

it’s also easier for ILB to get noticed in preseason games and make the club

Do we always have this many camp invites? I feel like it’s usually 10-15 UDFA and then 5-10 camp invites.

18 camp invites seems like a lot. Must be replacing the entire practice squad from last year.

The higher number of try out invites was expected because there was already 86 guys on the 90 man roster this way they can trim things after rookie mini camp before deciding how many veterans they need to cut.

Glad there's a good group to look at, especially with the new coaching staff.

Sorry for the duplicate thread/posts earlier.

I don't love Pavia but he and Vandy boat raced Tennessee, that is a legacy. One that UT fans are still butthurt over.

Thats like Luxembourg beating the socks off Belgium in a pretzel eating contest. Good for you but no one in the real world actually cares.

I watch every Houston Cougar game. McCutchin has a very real chance, particularly given the shape of the DB room. And while I have only seen Banks play a few times, he was a game wrecker.  Tyren Montgomery proved he could beat the Colton Hood's of the world. And Wagner/Miller aren't facing an impossible task trying to beat out Deculus and BCD for a swing tackle spot. Fitzgerald also walks into a relatively soft fight for the 4th safety slot.

Last years URFA were awful. I think the team put a greater emphasis on finding their guys this year, as evidenced by the 30 visit for McCutchin.

With the scheme changes, some of these players may fit better than the current practice squad.. corner and safety are spots I'll watch carefully, especially since we did not draft  any.

I love and hate this thread every year. I get wher Oman is coming from, but the fact that everyone loves an underdog, the dream of basically stealing a free draft pick, and the fact that we have had a couple of guys not only make the team but be key guys in the past, makes it fun. Seems like 2 maybe 3 of these guys have a realy chance to make the 53, with a couple of others having the chance to make the practice squad. If none makes it, that's a pretty good sign of where we are.

I understand not everyone is interested once you get through the first round.  No one is forcing them to click on the thread though.

There are absolutely about 4-5 spots at the back end of the roster that are completely up for grabs. There's no way you can convince me that there's no chance that an UDFA couldn't beat out the likes of Bryce Olliver, Julius Chestnut, DMR, Kendall Brooks, or any of the CBs after Joshua Williams and Marcus Harris.

That alone makes the conversation interesting and worth having for die hard fans.
